The MLS regular season isn't due to start for another two weeks, but for a quintet of MLS teams, the start of the season has arrived. Next week the quarterfinal round of the CONCACAF Champions League begins with Toronto FC, Sporting Kansas City, the Houston Dynamo, Supporters Shield holder New York Red Bulls and reigning MLS Cup champion Atlanta United all in action.

Ryan Mason was forced to retire in February 2018.

Former Tottenham midfielder Ryan Mason has called for a ban on children heading footballs. 

Mason, 27, retired from football in February last year after he fractured his skull while playing for Hull City against Chelsea in January 2017. 

"If you have got a seven or eight-year-old heading a solid ball, and his brain and his bone in his skull isn't fully developed, that could potentially be doing damage," Mason, capped once by England, told BBC London.

Alejandro Zendejas yet to make switch request from U.S. to Mexico - FIFA

Alejandro Zendejas has featured for the U.S. under-17 and under-20s.

Chivas winger and former U.S. youth international Alejandro Zendejas is yet to apply for his one-time switch to be able to play for Mexico at international level, FIFA has confirmed to ESPN FC.

The Mexico-born 21-year-old was raised in the U.S., played three games for the country at the 2015 Under-17 World Cup in Chile and was a regular for its youth national teams, but was selected for a Mexico camp with the U-22s this week, having previously been called up to the U-21s in 2017.

Fernando Clavijo, National Soccer Hall of Fame member, dies at 63

National Soccer Hall of Fame member Fernando Clavijo, who was part of the U.S. squad at the 1994 World Cup, died Friday at age 63.

Clavijo died at his home in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and had battled multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer, for five years.
