Low-profile Tijuana a perfect spot for high-profile Miguel Herrera

Miguel Herrera will look to revitalize his coaching career at the helm of Liga MX club Tijuana.

After the Tijuana Xolos announced Miguel Herrera as the team's new coach for next season, the obvious jokes about the coach being in the doghouse (the mascots of the clubs are known as the Aztec Dogs) followed. Miguel Herrera joins Liga MX side Club Tijuana on two-year deal

Miguel Herrera's Mexico are off to an inauspicious start in the Copa America.
Miguel Herrera has his contract with the Mexico national team terminated in July.

Liga MX side Club Tijuana have announced the signing of former Mexico boss Miguel Herrera as their new manager.

Herrera had been out of work since being fired by the Mexican football federation (FMF) for a skirmish with a TV commentator the day after El Tri won the Gold Cup last July, and had been linked to the managerial position at the Chicago Fire in MLS.

Xolos, however, moved quickly for the 47-year-old and announced the two-year deal via Twitter on Monday.

Ex-Mexico boss Miguel Herrera in talks with Club Tijuana

When Mexico was it its very lowest after a fortunate fourth-place finish in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying, Miguel Herrera instilled some badly needed swagger into El Tri.
Miguel Herrera may be giving Tijuana fans something to celebrate soon.

The speculation about Miguel Herrera's future looks set to come to an end. The former Mexico national team coach is in Tijuana and in talks with Club Tijuana about becoming the Liga MX institution's new manager.

While there has been no official confirmation as of yet, Xolos welcomed him to the city on Twitter on Friday and later posted an Instagram photo of Herrera watching over the club's youth teams alongside sporting director Ignacio Palou.

U.S. youngsters Paul Arriola, Alejandro Guido seeking breakout at Tijuana

Twenty-year-old Paul Arriola has yet to truly establish himself in Tijuana's first team after moving to Mexico in 2013.

GUADALAJARA, Mexico -- Club Tijuana reached dizzy heights early in its existence. Formed in 2007, Xolos had been promoted to the Liga MX by 2011 and captured its maiden title in late 2012. Tijuana was red-hot, the renegade upstart of Mexican football that established institutions were wary of.

There was a steady flow of youngsters south to TJ to take up the option of joining the club's youth system, conveniently located just a short drive across the border. The club made no apologies for fiercely...
