Expectations high for Liga MX clubs in CONCACAF Champions League

Henry Martin has been a revelation with his five goals and two assists for Club America.

Expectations are unsurprisingly high for the Liga MX teams involved in this year's CONCACAF Champions League tournament. Since 2006, no club outside of Mexico's first division has won top honors in the CONCACAF competition. Whether it be in the "Champions Cup" or "Champions League" era, a Liga MX team always seems to finish with the title in hand.

This year, the responsibility of maintaining that streak from 2006 lies in the hands (and feet) of four Liga MX squads: Club America, Chivas, Tijuana...

U.S. forward Rubio Rubin signs with Club Tijuana after MLS talks

U.S. and LA Galaxy legend Landon Donovan is presented at Club Leon and addresses his new fans for the first time.

U.S. international forward Rubio Rubin has signed for Club Tijuana, the Liga MX club announced on Thursday night.

Rubin was a free agent and had been on the verge of signing a contract with MLS, with one source stating that a draft contract had been written up with terms agreed.

But Tijuana on Wednesday made a last effort to get a deal done and was able to secure Rubin's signature.

Rubin has spent his whole professional career in Europe. He signed with Dutch side FC Utrecht as an 18-year-old in...

New manager Diego Cocca's pragmatic approach has Tijuana looking up again

New manager Diego Cocca has changed the culture quickly at Tijuana.
Tijuana have a much more positive feel under new manager Diego Cocca.

A little less than three months ago, Tijuana made plenty of headlines across the Mexican media landscape, albeit for the wrong reasons.

Amidst the unexpected news on Oct. 30th that then-manager Eduardo Coudet would no longer be working with Tijuana, reports began to emerge that the team was struggling with payment problems. To make matters worse, suspected locker room issues were also reported to have played a role in Coudet's exit from the club.

Xolos were in shambles off the field, and despite...

Joe Corona joins Club America from Tijuana amid 38 MX draft deals

Monterrey was a sea of blue and yellow Monday morning as Tigres celebrated their Toreno Apertura title after beating Rayados.

U.S. midfielder Joe Corona was brought in to reinforce Miguel Herrera's Club America from Club Tijuana during the Liga MX draft on Wednesday in one of 38 deals completed.

The 27-year-old rejoins former Mexico coach Herrera, who played Corona as a regular starter when both were at Xolos in the 2017 Clausura.

Corona was one of three players from Club Tijuana to head to Club America, with striker Henry Martin and defender Emanuel Aguilera also part of a trade ahead of the 2018 Clausura. Paraguayan international...

Liga MX season-in-a-sentence reviews for every team

Tigres celebrate their 2017 Apertura title win over Monterrey.
It was another great season for Tigres, who have won the Apertura three seasons in a row.

Thanks to a competition format that schedules two tournaments per year, Liga MX seasons can at times feel like a whirlwind. With two playoff runs and two ensuing champions in less than 12 months, the scheduling might seem chaotic, but it's what truly makes the Mexican first division so thrilling to follow.

In the spirit of that brevity, we've decided to provide a one-sentence season review for each Liga MX team. If you didn't get a chance to keep up with the rapid pace of the league, here's what...
