Tianjin Quanjian ended Guangzhou's 44-match unbeaten run at home, but Scolari's side lift their seventh straight league title.

Fabio Cannavaro has quit as head coach of Chinese Super League side Tianjin Quanjian, paving the way for a possible return to seven-time champions Guangzhou Evergrande.

Tianjin announced on Monday that Cannavaro's resignation had been accepted by the club and that former Sampdoria and Queens Park Rangers head coach Paulo Sousa had been appointed as his replacement.

Fabio Cannavaro refused to address mounting speculation he will return to Guangzhou Evergrande as a replacement for Luiz Felipe Scolari as his Tianjin Quanjian side prepare to take on the seven-time champions on Saturday in the final round of this season's Chinese Super League.

Cannavaro was fired as Guangzhou coach in June 2015 just six months after he took over from Marcello Lippi at the club's helm, only to be replaced by Scolari following an indifferent run of form.

Tianjin Quanjian win over Hebei CFFC sees Champions League race tighten

Alexandre Pato's header earned Tianjin Quanjian a 2-1 win over Hebei CFFC in the Chinese Super League on Saturday as the battle for third place, and a spot in next year's AFC Champions League, intensified further.

Fabio Cannavaro's Quanjian side remain fourth in the standings but moved to within a point of third-placed Hebei with just two games remaining after Pato gave them victory 12 minutes from time having missed an earlier penalty.
