Cotterill makes winning start

Strikers Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Sam Baldock got new boss Steve Cotterill's reign off to a perfect start as Bristol City avoided a potential FA Cup banana skin with a 2-1 win at Tamworth.

Emmanuel-Thomas made it 15 goals for the season with a 25-yard thunderbolt before the break and Baldock's cool finish sealed victory, although Andy Todd pulled one back for the Lambs late on.

Tamworth survived an early scare as Tony Capaldi scrambled a fourth-minute Aden Flint header off the goal-line, but Emmanuel-Thomas'...

Haworth causes concern for Lambs

Tamworth midfielder Andy Haworth could miss the FA Cup second-round clash with Bristol City after picking up an injury on his debut last weekend.

Haworth is receiving treatment for a hamstring strain at parent club Notts County, making him a major doubt for the cup tie.

Lambs boss Dale Belford is also sweating on the fitness of Lee Hildreth (calf) and Richard Peniket (dead leg).

The Skrill Conference Premier team seized control from the first whistle and they almost opened the scoring in the 10th minute when Andy Todd saw an effort hit the bar after Tony Capaldi's free-kick.

Mark Wright fired one over after a strong run as Cheltenham struggled to make any impact against their non-league opponents.

Duo banned for Lambs

Charlie Allen and Richard Peniket will miss Tamworth's FA Cup first-round tie against Cheltenham through suspension.

On-loan Gillingham midfielder Allen was sent off on his debut in the Lambs' goalless league draw with Braintree last Saturday while Peniket must serve a one-match ban after the striker was booked for the fifth time this season in the same game.

Jordan Rose and Jack Evans are also definite absentees with their ongoing knee problems but fellow defenders Wayne Thomas (calf) and Matt Regan...
