Western Sydney Wanderers face hefty sanctions for anti-gay banner

A first-half goal to Brendon Santalab proved to be enough for the Western Sydney Wanderers to finally crack Sydney FC.
Brendon Santalab makes it clear that he wants to be in the starting XI for WSW's derby clash with Sydney.

Western Sydney face hefty punishment over their fans' anti-gay Sydney derby banner, for which Sydney FC have requested a formal apology on behalf of coach Graham Arnold and his family.

As outrage mushroomed on Monday, Football Federation Australia (FFA) hit the Wanderers with a strongly worded show-cause notice in response to Saturday night's tifo, which it viewed as "offensive to any reasonable member of the public."

Sydney Derby referee Chris Beath has ostensibly admitted he was wrong to deny Sydney FC a late penalty that could have kept the A-League leaders' Invincibles run going.

Beath waved away three Sky Blues penalty shouts in Western Sydney's controversial 1-0 win at ANZ Stadium, the last of which was clear-cut.

Despite angry protests from Brosque and his camp,...

Western Sydney sent Sydney FC to their first A-League defeat this season, shocking the runaway leaders 1-0 to claim their maiden derby win in more than three years.

Thirty-seven months after Brendon Santalab scored the winner in the Wanderers' last cross-town victory, the veteran striker set the stands alight on Saturday night with a 26th-minute opener that was never answered at ANZ Stadium.

Santalab's was a remarkable moment of composure in an open, at times frenetic affair peppered with penalty...

Dwight Yorke denied travel to U.S. because of Iranian stamp on passport

Dwight Yorke
Dwight Yorke said he was 'made to feel like a criminal' when denied entry into the United States.

Former Manchester United man Dwight Yorke said he was "made to feel like a criminal" after being prevented from travelling to the United States on Friday.

Yorke said he was prevented from boarding a flight that was scheduled to stop in Miami because of a visa problem stemming from an Iranian stamp on his passport, which he received after playing in a charity match in Tehran in 2015.

"I couldn't quite believe what was happening" Yorke told the Sun. "I have lost count of the number of times I have...
