Bradley Wright-Phillips and Laurent Ciman
Laurent Ciman is headed to Los Angeles FC after Tuesday's trade.

Los Angeles FC acquired the Montreal Impact's Laurent Ciman in a trade for two players the new MLS club acquired in the expansion draft hours earlier.

Montreal will receive defenders Jukka Raitala and Raheem Edwards, whom LAFC selected with its final two picks in the draft from Columbus and Toronto, respectively.

Ciman, 32, was named MLS defender of the year in 2015 and helped Belgium qualify for the World Cup this year.

Major League Soccer: Tim Melia (53') Vancouver Whitecaps 1-0 Sporting Kansas City
Tim Melia and Sporting KC earned their sixth shutout of the season in a 2-0 win over the New York Red Bulls.

Sporting Kansas City's Tim Melia was named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year after running away with the vote.

Melia earned over 50 percent of the votes from all three groups -- players, media and club staff -- easily outpacing fellow finalists Andre Blake of the Philadelphia Union and Stefan Frei of the Seattle Sounders.

The 31-year-old led MLS with both a 0.78 goals-against average and a 78.4 save percentage, while also helping his club win the U.S. Open Cup for the second time in three years....

Houston SKC action 171026
Ike Opara won the 2017 MLS Defender of the Year award.

MLS named Sporting Kansas City center-back Ike Opara the Defender of the Year on Thursday.

Opara made 30 league appearances this season, while Sporting KC only managed to earn a single point in the four games that he was out of the lineup. With him, they won 12, drew 12 and lost six.

The 28-year-old also scored three league goals, tied for second among defenders, and added another two in the U.S. Open Cup as Sporting KC won the trophy.

Sporting KC has qualified for the playoffs every year since...

Columbus and Steffen spoil Atlanta's expansion dream, Houston rolls on

Goalkeeper Zack Steffen had several tremendous stops in regular time and in penalties to lift Columbus to victory against Atlanta.

There were fewer goals but more drama during the second set of MLS knockout-round matches Thursday.

The Columbus Crew prevailed over Atlanta United, winning the penalty shootout 3-1 after playing 120 minutes of scoreless -- but very exciting -- soccer.

Here are four thoughts from the second night of the MLS Cup playoffs.

1. Crew and Steffen rise to the occasion

Heading into the playoffs, it had been quite a 10-day period for the Columbus Crew. As the team on the field ended the regular season with...
