San Jose Earthquakes sign young Peruvian left-back Marcos Lopez

The San Jose Earthquakes have signed Peruvian left-back Marcos Lopez.

The player's former club, Peruvian side Sporting Cristal, made the announcement via its Twitter feed, and a league source confirmed that Lopez is headed to San Jose.

The Quakes will be hoping that the arrival of Lopez will fill a massive need at the left-back position. Last year San Jose signed Joel Qwiberg to fill the slot, but he struggled to adapt to MLS, and made just five appearances over the course of the season. The bulk...

Peruvian top-flight match finishes in draw after being suspended due to violence

A Peruvian football match that was suspended on Sunday because of fighting between fans and gunshots resumed on Monday and ended in a draw.

The match between Alianza Lima and Sporting Cristal was finished behind closed doors with the hosts scoring to level at 2-2.

Sporting Cristal was leading 2-1 Sunday when the match was suspended on Sunday with 25 minutes to play. Four people were wounded by gunshots outside the stadium during the match.

Man United learn possible Champions League playoff opponents

Manchester United could face a tricky Champions League playoff against the likes of CSKA Moscow, Lazio, Monaco or Sporting Lisbon in August.

The 15 teams which take part in the non-champions half of the qualifying draw are now known after Lazio held off the challenge of Rafael Benitez led Napoli to hold on to third place in Serie A.

Manchester United, ranked 10th by UEFA, will be the top seeded club in the final qualifying round -- joined by Valencia, Bayer Leverkusen, Shakhtar Donetsk and Ajax....
