Matondo on justice for George Floyd: More should take action like McKennie

Schalke winger Rabbi Matondo has told ESPN that more people should follow his teammate Weston McKennie's lead and support calls for justice for George Floyd.

United States national team star McKennie wore an armband during his side's 1-0 defeat to Werder Bremen on Saturday which read: "Justice for George."

He also used social media to call for others to join him in support for the cause and to "stand up for what we believe in."

Players demanding justice for George Floyd should not attract regular sanctions - FIFA

FIFA urged football competition organisers on Monday to apply "common sense" and consider not sanctioning players demanding justice for George Floyd during matches.

The recognition by FIFA of the "depth of sentiment" over Floyd's death came in a rare statement telling the global game to show flexibility and not enforce laws of football it helps to set.

Shaka Hislop praises Weston McKennie for emerging as a leader while football's governing bodies have stumbled.

United States international Weston McKennie displayed his support for George Floyd -- a handcuffed black man who died in police custody in Minnesota after pleading that he could not breathe -- during Schalke's Bundesliga match with Werder Bremen on Saturday, wearing an armband with the message "Justice for George."

After the match, Schalke tweeted an image of the midfielder wearing the armband with the #JusticeForGeorge hashtag.
