San Jose Earthquakes part ways with DP Simon Dawkins

Simon Dawkins has been placed on waivers.

The San Jose Earthquakes parted ways with designated player Simon Dawkins on Friday.

Dawkins signed a DP contract in 2016 but only scored five goals in 43 games and only played three times after Dominic Kinnear was fired in June.

In buying out Dawkins' guaranteed contract for 2018, the Earthquakes free up a DP slot for Swedish striker Magnus Eriksson, who joined the team in December.

Landon Donovan's Club Leon to face Earthquakes in friendly

As Landon Donovan comes out of retirement again to this time join Leon, relive his top five goals in Major League Soccer.
U.S. and LA Galaxy legend Landon Donovan is presented at Club Leon and addresses his new fans for the first time.

Club Leon claimed on Monday that Landon Donovan will return to the San Jose Earthquakes -- but it's only for a friendly match.

The Mexican club wrote on Twitter: "Landon Donovan will return to his country in March, following interest from San Jose Earthquake of MLS."

Donovan began his MLS career with San Jose from 2001-03, while on loan from Bayer Leverkusen,...

LAFC picks Akron's Joao Moutinho with top pick in MLS SuperDraft

Former Akron University star Joao Moutinho says he's ecstatic about playing for Bob Bradley after being selected No. 1 overall by LAFC in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft.
Bob Bradley discusses what it's been like putting a team together from scratch for the second time in MLS as LAFC continue preparing for their inaugural season.

LAFC selected a pair of full-backs with two of the first three picks in Friday's MLS SuperDraft for college players, starting with Akron's Joao Moutinho with the top selection.

But perhaps the biggest news to come out of the draft came when hosts Philadelphia Union sent $1.2 million in allocation to the Chicago Fire for winger David Accam.

Moutinho, who turned 20 last week, is primarily a left-back but can play in both defense and midfield. The Portugal native scored three goals with five...

The Earthquakes will get $100,000 in general allocation money and $75,000 in targeted allocation money in exchange for Ceren.

"Darwin is a young, but experience and talented player," Dynamo coach Wilmer Cabrera said. "He will bring intensity, quality...

Penarol center-back Yeferson Quintana joins San Jose on loan

Yeferson Quintana
Yeferson Quintana, left, has joined the San Jose Earthquakes from Uruguay's Penarol.

The San Jose Earthquakes have signed Penarol's Yeferson Quintana on a year-long loan with an option to buy.

The 21-year-old center-back made 29 appearances across all competitions for the Carboneros last season, scoring three goals.

"Yeferson fits the profile of the player we wanted to add at this position," said Earthquakes general manager Jesse Fioranelli.

"His arrival will also give us different options as to how our defense will line up next season. Yeferson has a strong presence in both phases...
