Brian McBride gives a glowing recommendation for Sacramento to join MLS, but questions why the expansion has been delayed.

An MLS expansion race that officially kicked off in January looks set to reach its first milestone in mid-December. An MLS Board of Governors meeting set to take place around MLS Cup will see owners decide which two of the 12 contending cities will be selected for teams 25 and 26. Teams 27 and 28 will be chosen at a later date.

To that end, the 12 prospective ownership groups have been jockeying for position for the entirety of 2017. Some cities that looked to be locks fell by the wayside. Others...

Sacramento Republic names jersey sponsor for potential MLS spot

Brian McBride gives a glowing recommendation for Sacramento to join MLS, but questions why the expansion has been delayed.

Sacramento Republic FC has formalized a partnership establishing UC Davis Health as the team's jersey sponsor should the club be selected to be an MLS expansion franchise.

The five-year deal would run from Republic FC's first year in MLS -- which it hopes will be 2020 -- through the 2024 season.

U.S. Open Cup: FC Cincinnati, Miami FC again upset MLS clubs to advance

FC Cincinnati stunned the Chicago Fire in the Round of 16 in the U.S. Open Cup, with goalie Mitch Hildebrandt playing hero.

FC Cincinnati continued its fairy-tale run in the U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday with a 3-1 penalty shootout win over the Chicago Fire to reach the quarterfinals.

The USL club made headlines after eliminating in-state Columbus Crew SC in the fifth round and needed penalties to sneak past a second-straight MLS club after a scoreless first 120 minutes.
