Real Madrid's Gareth Bale will have 'important role this season' - Zidane

Zinedine Zidane believes Real Madrid will be able to continue moving up the La Liga table after his team go third with a 3-1 win over Leganes.

Gareth Bale is being protected from further injury issues by limiting his playing time and will be a vital player in the remaining weeks of the season, according to Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane.

Although fit and available again after missing most of the autumn with ankle and calf problems, Bale has started just one of Madrid's last four games in all competitions, and was benched for last week's 3-1 Champions League round-of-16 first leg win over Paris Saint-Germain.

Robert Lewandowski insists Bayern Munich are not Champions League favourites despite thrashing Besiktas 5-0 in the first leg of last-16 tie.

Former sporting director Mattias Sammer has told Sport Bild that Bayern Munich made a "very bad" decision to allow Toni Kroos to leave for Real Madrid.

Sammer joined Bayern in 2012 and won the Bundesliga title every season during his four years at the club, also carrying off the Treble in 2013 -- including the Champions League -- when he worked closely with coach Jupp Heynckes and Kroos.

Zinedine Zidane believes Real Madrid will be able to continue moving up the La Liga table after his team go third with a 3-1 win over Leganes.

Alvaro Arbeloa has defended Gareth Bale amid media speculation Real Madrid will try to offload the Wales international this summer.

Reports in Spain claim that Bale has "run out of credit" at the Bernabeu and that his time with the European champions is coming to an end.

Bale, who cost Madrid a then world-record £85 million when he joined from Tottenham in 2013, has been plagued by injuries during his time in La Liga and has only started one of Real's last four games.

The 28-year-old is unlikely...

Former Premier League goalkeeper Shaka Hislop examines the improvements David De Gea has made that've helped transform him into the world's best goalkeeper.
David de Gea ensured Manchester United will return to Old Trafford on level terms with these sensational saves against Sevilla.
David de Gea made two fantastic saves to end the first half and Manchester United held serve in the second to head back to Old Trafford with a 0-0 draw.

The FC crew are tempering their expectations following Man United's uninspiring performance in their UCL first leg against Sevilla.

Manchester United are confident David De Gea will reject renewed interest from Real Madrid and extend his contract at Old Trafford, sources have told ESPN FC.

The Spanish goalkeeper has 18 months to run on his current deal, with United also holding an option to extend it by another season until 2020.

Sources have told ESPN FC there is no rush on either side to commit to a new agreement.

However, after tentative discussions began earlier this season, there has been enough progress for United to feel...
