Brian McDermott sacked as Reading manager after six defeats in seven

Brian McDermott had led Reading to promotion from the Championship last season
Brian McDermott was unable to inspire Reading in his second spell.

Reading have announced the sacking of manager Brian McDermott.

McDermott returned to the Madejski Stadium for a second spell in charge in December 2015 but was unable to repeat the success of his initial stint, in which he led the club to the Premier League.

Reading finished 17th in the Championship this season and ended the campaign with six defeats in their last seven matches.

A statement on the club's official website said: "After careful consideration, the board of Reading Football Club have...

Paul Lambert was given a winning send off as Blackburn beat Reading 3-1 in their final game of the Sky Bet Championship campaign.

The Rovers manager activated a release clause to bring his short tenure to an end but his team still gave everything for him and Elliott Bennett's eighth-minute volley - his second for the club - and Danny Graham's controlled effort six minutes later set the hosts on their way.

Yann Kermorgant's third of the campaign - an unstoppable free-kick - gave the visitors a lifeline...

Preston secured their first Championship victory in six attempts thanks to a stoppage-time effort from Daniel Johnson in the 2-1 win at Reading.

Jermaine Beckford had given Preston a deserved lead early in the second half but Stephen Quinn equalised for Reading with four minutes left.

Johnson then struck with a low drive to give Preston all three points in the dying moments.

Neither side had won in their previous five games, which was illustrated in their mediocre mid-table positions.

Reading had at...

Michael Hector and Lucas Piazon back at Chelsea after loan spell at Reading

Michael Hector and Lucas Piazon have returned to Chelsea from Reading to train with the Blues for the remainder of the season.

With Reading in mid-table in the Championship, out of playoff contention and clear of relegation danger, the pair are back at their parent club to be assessed.

However, Hector and Brazilian midfielder Piazon will not be eligible for selection in the Blues' remaining four Premier League fixtures under caretaker boss Guus Hiddink.

Hiddink will make way at the end of the season,...

Deniss Rakels' equaliser earned a point for Reading as they drew 1-1 with QPR at Loftus Road.

Grant Hall's first goal for Rangers put them ahead 10 minutes before half time, but Rakels struck just six minutes later.

Former Tottenham defender Hall, outstanding for Rangers this season, met Alejandro Faurlin's left-wing corner with a looping header that Oliver Norwood was unable to prevent dropping in at the far post.

But the Royals hit back when Andrew Taylor crossed from the left and Yann Kermogant's...
