Aston Villa's poor start to the Sky Bet Championship season continued when they lost 2-1 against Reading at Madejski Stadium.

Villa rarely ventured forward in the first half and Steve Bruce's side were undone by two goals in six minutes early in the second period, as they remained without a win after three games.

Glenn Whelan deflected an Adrian Popa cross into his own net, via an upright, and then Modou Barrow struck from close range for his first goal for Reading.

Reading laboured to a 1-1 Championship draw with a battling Fulham side that had to play almost the entire match with only 10 men.

Fulham lost centre-back Tomas Kalas to a red card with only 30 seconds gone after he had committed a last-man foul on Reading winger Mo Barrow.

Reading struggled to capitalise but made the breakthrough just past the hour, when midfielder Liam Kelly lashed in his third goal in two matches.

Fulham levelled seven minutes from time, when substitute Lucas Piazon took advantage...

Championship Reading edged into the second round of the Carabao Cup with an unconvincing 2-0 victory over League One Gillingham.

Midfielder Liam Kelly struck twice in the last 19 minutes, with a brace of well-struck efforts for only his second and third goals for the club.

Reading reached the fourth round of the competition last season, in which they lost 2-0 at Arsenal, but were forced to field an inexperienced line-up due to a series of injuries.

Their side, with an average age of just under 23, created...

Conor Washington scored both goals for QPR as they beat 10-man Reading 2-0 at Loftus Road.

Washington headed in from close range on 22 minutes and slotted home a penalty 14 minutes into the second half after Tiago Ilori had been red-carded for fouling Pawel Wszolek in the box.

It was a miserable afternoon for last season's beaten Championship play-off finalists, whose new signing Jon Dadi Bodvarsson went off injured.

Rangers went ahead when Luke Freeman's skill on the right dug the ball out of a tight...

Gambian winger Modou Barrow joins Reading

Reading have completed the signing of Swansea City's Modou Barrow, signing the Gambian wideman on a four-year deal.

Barrow joined Swansea from Ostersunds FK in 2014, but struggled to establish himself at the Liberty Stadium and moves to Reading for an undisclosed fee, according to the Royals' official website.

Bizarrely, the Berkshire club opted to unveil Barrow with a video which included a wheelbarrow unloading a heap of Carabao cans onto the side of the Madejski Stadium pitch.
