Luis Gil returns to MLS as Orlando City seals loan from Queretaro

United States international midfielder Luis Gil has completed his loan to Orlando City from Mexico's Queretaro, the MLS club announced on Thursday.

Orlando had to pay Real Salt Lake $100,000 in targeted allocation money for the 23-year-old's MLS rights, to be delivered in 2018.

The deal includes an option for Orlando to purchase Gil from Queretaro outright at the end of the season, but if he does not sign with the Lions past this year, RSL will pay Orlando $50,000 in TAM and get back the player's...

Orlando nears loan deal with Queretaro for Luis Gil - sources

Luis Gil
Luis Gil has made two appearances with the U.S. national team.

The loan deal to bring Queretaro midfielder Luis Gil to MLS side Orlando City is nearing completion, multiple sources have told ESPN FC.

ESPN's Julie Stewart-Binks first reported the potential move on March 27, only for MLSSoccer.com to report that a snag over the financial terms had occurred, casting doubt over whether the deal would be finalized.

But the two sides have been able to agree on the terms, with one source indicating that Gil, 23, has made arrangement to fly to Orlando on Wednesday.

Who is the best goalkeeper in Liga MX?

Alfredo Talavera, Toluca

The goalkeeping position is one of the strongest in Liga MX, but I'd go for Talavera every single time. The Toluca keeper is strong in the air, a nimble shot stopper, decent enough with his feet and in his prime at 34.

There is a reason why Talavera has been Mexico's No. 1 of late and the...

Queretaro claims Copa MX title with Volpi's help and aspire to greatness

Tiago Volpi
Tiago Volpi was the hero as Queretaro defeated Chivas in penalties to lift the Copa MX trophy.

QUERETARO, Mexico -- In the early morning hours on Wednesday, at the hotel where Queretaro spent the night before its Copa MX final clash against Chivas, Gallos Blancos' goalkeeper Tiago Volpi penned his signature on a contract extension that prolonged his stay at the club for at least three more years.

Queretaro's Estadio Corregidora would be shouting "Volpi, Volpi, Volpi!" just a few hours later, but for a different reason, as he helped the club win its first major title in its 66-year history.
