Tigres Queretaro CCL action 160405
Andre Pierre-Gignac scored twice as Tigres advanced past Queretaro in the CONCACAF Champions League.

Tigres beat Queretaro 2-0 in a CONCACAF Champions League semifinal second leg to secure passage to the finals by the same aggregate score.

Andre-Pierre Gignac provided both goals for the hosts, who needed 174 minutes of play over two legs to net the first goal for either team in the tie, after the first leg ended 0-0.

Tigres had several near misses during the match, including one by the French striker late in the first half. But Gignac made no doubt in the 84th minute when a cross was deflected...

No goals but plenty of talking points in CONCACAF CL semifinal first legs

America Santos Darwin Quintero 160316
Despite Santos and America combining for 25 shots, neither side could find a breakthrough.

Club Santos tied Club America 0-0 and Queretaro and Tigres also went scoreless in the first legs of the all-Liga MX CONCACAF Champions League semifinals.

Here are five takeaways:

1. No goals anywhere

With an average of 2.8 goals per game in the 2016 Liga MX Clausura so far and only four scoreless draws in the 89 matches that have taken place, the lack of first leg goals was an anomaly, rather than the rule. Mexico's top division is arguably one of the world's most attack-minded leagues.

Queretaro and Tigres leave it all for CONCACAF Champs Lge second leg

Gignac Tigres Queretaro 160315
Andre-Pierre Gignac and Tigres couldn't find the scoresheet in a 0-0 CCL draw with Queretaro.

QUERETARO, Mexico -- Tigres and Queretaro finished with a scoreless draw in the first leg of the teams' CONCACAF Champions League semifinal series. After the match, Tigres' head coach Ricardo "Tuca" Ferretti took the time to praise Victor Manuel Vucetich's coaching career: "Vucetich is a great friend of mine, don't forget that he's already won three of these titles," he said.

Both Vucetich and Ferretti concluded that the "coin is in the air," and that either team could end up disputing the final...

Gignac Tigres Queretaro 160315
Andre-Pierre Gignac and Tigres were not able to break through vs. a physical Queretaro side.

Queretaro and Tigres battled to a goalless draw in the first leg of their CONCACAF Champions League semifinal match.

The statistics from the story summed up the hectic and hard-to-predict nature of the match. Tigres dominated possession, holding the ball for over 60 percent of the match, but Queretaro had far more -- and better -- chances than the visitors, taking 15 shots, three of which forced saves from Nahuel Guzman.

The physical tone of the match was set early on when Jurgen Damm was fouled...
