Liga MX: Chivas, Queretaro on the rise while Puebla, America slide

The former Barca man only needed six minutes to bag a brace after coming on as a sub for Queretaro.
Things are looking up for Omar Bravo and Chivas de Guadalajara.

It was a good weekend for Chivas de Guadalajara, who lead the Liga MX Clausura table after 14 rounds and also made relegation a mathematical impossibility with Friday's 1-1 draw against Club Tijuana.

At rival Club America, things aren't so rosy after falling 4-0 at home to Queretaro on Saturday, making for an intriguing Clasico Nacional in Guadalajara next Sunday.

Here's the good, the bad and the ugly from the weekend that was in the Liga MX.

Kitchen, 23, earned his first cap in February when he appeared as a substitute against Panama.

He returns to the national team after scoring twice in D.C.'s 2-2 draw with the New York Red Bulls on Saturday.

Orozco was named to the U.S. squad on Sunday, but he will not join up with the team after discussions with his Mexican club Puebla, which faces a stiff challenge...

Morelia benefit from Mexico relegation system as Puebla look doomed

Liga MX table
The relegation summary shows that Puebla are in trouble.

During the last two tournaments, Morelia has easily been the worst team in the Liga MX. La Monarquia have been abysmal. With only three wins in the league since last July, the team finished in last place during the 2014 Apertura and are well on their way to claiming that "honour" once again this Clausura.

Yet, despite the lack of goals and entertaining play on the pitch, Morelia is set to play at least another year in the Liga MX. But how could this happen?

Here's a quick summary of the relegation...

After a poor start, Monterrey are rounding into form in the second half of the Liga MX Clausura.
After a poor start, Monterrey are rounding into form in the second half of the Liga MX Clausura.

In this week's installment of the Liga MX fan rant, I have decided to discuss two squads with two very different outcomes in their recent matches: Puebla and Monterrey. While Los Rayados have slowly started to pick up their form, La Franja have struggled and is looking like the most likely candidate to be relegated at the end of this season.

Let's take a quick look at these two teams and their highs -- and lows -- in the Clausura:

It's about time, Monterrey.

The thing about Los Rayados...

Club America are stalking first-place Tijuana, while Pachuca are in freefall

Michael Arroyo provided the only goal America needed to beat Santos and help his team move up two spots in this week's Power Rankings.

Last weekend, Club Tijuana proved that Los Xolos are still the team to beat in the Liga MX, while Chivas may have proved that Los Rojiblancos should continue to deserve a spot in the league.

Over in Morelia, La Monarquia helped Leones Negros continue its rapid ascension at the same time that Puebla has started to stumble in the relegation race.

Here are the updated power rankings for the 2015 Liga MX Clausura:
