Watching the MLS Eastern Conference unfold this year, it's tempting to invoke the old line about The Doors being the best worst band ever. There are tight conference races and then there are conference races such as the one in the East this year, which at times looks like a battle of the least worst.

Frank Lampard and Ronald Matarrita scored for NYCFC as it claimed three points in Seattle.

Frank Lampard scored a disputed goal late in the first half to help New York City FC beat the Seattle Sounders 2-0 on Saturday.

In the 38th minute, a corner kick by NYCFC's Andrea Pirlo was cleared away from the net, but not out of the penalty area and R.J. Allen lofted it back toward the six-yard box. Lampard, standing a yard inside of it, chested the ball hard to the ground and into the net.

Philadelphia Union hold on to beat Chicago Fire in seven-goal thriller

Roland Alberg netted a hat-trick to inspire the Philadelphia Union past the Chicago Fire at Talen Energy Stadium.

Roland Alberg had the second three-goal game in Philadelphia Union history as they beat the Chicago Fire 4-3 on Wednesday night.

Philadelphia snapped a seven-game winless streak in the series, which included three losses and four draws. Chicago had its MLS-record road winless streak extended to 32 games, dating back to July 2014.

The Union scored three times in the first half to tie a franchise record and Philadelphia was ahead 4-1 before Chicago scored in the 69th and 80th minutes.
