Melaka United rest 'ill' coach Eric Williams ahead of Felda game in MSL

Jason Dasey and PJ Roberts assess Nelo Vingada's appointment as Malaysia coach and what he has to do to succeed.
Melaka United head coach Eric Williams
Melaka United say coach Eric Williams is 'ill' and will be rested for Wednesday's MSL game.

English-born Australian coach Eric Williams has been "rested" by struggling Melaka United ahead of Wednesday's Malaysia Super League (MSL) match against Felda United.

Melaka are 10th on the MSL table, just one point above the relegation zone. But they are showing signs of improvement after avoiding defeat in their last three league matches.

Former Yangon United coach Williams, 61, joined Melaka at the start of the season after they had been promoted to the MSL as 2016 Premier League champions.

Rhys Williams finally completes Perth Glory-Melbourne Victory switch

Kevin Muscat says it was hard to help his Melbourne Victory players come to terms with their defeat in the Grand Final.

Perth Glory defender Rhys Williams
Fringe Socceroo Rhys Williams made 16 appearances for Perth Glory this season.

Rhys Williams will swap purple for navy blue next season after Melbourne Victory confirmed the A-League's worst-kept transfer secret.

The 28-year-old Australia international has put a turbulent season with hometown club Perth behind him by signing a two-year deal with Kevin Muscat's grand finalists.

Having been linked to various clubs in recent months, most prominently champions Sydney...

Castro tops 14 Perth players off-contract as Lowe plans for next season

Diego Castro will be the priority when Perth coach Kenny Lowe starts to re-shape his team for the next A-League campaign a week earlier than he'd have liked.

Glory's encouraging late-season run ended on Saturday night, when they were bundled out 3-0 by premiers and semifinal opponents Sydney FC.

The focus now turns to retaining the core of a talent-stacked squad starting to hit their straps, with marquee Castro (13 goals, seven assists) the top of the wishlist.

As he did last year, the reigning Johnny...

Milos Ninkovic leads list of contenders for A-League Player of the Year

Milos Ninkovic's biggest barrier to claiming the Johnny Warren Medal could be his A-League premiership-winning teammates.

The Serbian is a deserved favourite to win the award for the A-League's best performed player at the Dolan Warren Awards ceremony in Sydney on Monday night.

Sydney's No. 10 has been a sight to see this season, scoring nine goals and laying off 10, displaying equal parts ruthlessness and grace in the Sky Blues midfield.

But in a team full of match-winners, he's no guarantee to...

Sydney FC are through to the A-League Grand Final after downing Perth 3-0 in a drama-filled semi at Allianz Stadium.

The Sky Blues' record-breaking season went on the line in front of 21,938 on Saturday night, and they didn't disappoint against a confident Glory side that couldn't quite match the class of the premiers.

The video assistant referee played a prominent role, overturning two disallowed goals to help Sydney to a 3-0 lead at half-time, a scoreline that proved more than enough to set...
