Khouma Babacar's last-gasp goal in a 2-1 Fiorentina win reminded new Palermo boss Eugenio Corini just how hard it will be to keep the Sicilians in Serie A.

Roberto De Zerbi was sacked this week, with Corini promptly hired and tasked with ending a run of seven straight defeats and keeping Palermo afloat.

It was an inauspicious start for the visitors to Florence as Federico Bernardeschi's 32nd-minute penalty put them under the cosh once more.

Former Chievo boss Corini replaces De Zerbi as Palermo manager

Palermo have announced that Eugenio Corini is taking over for Roberto De Zerbi as Palermo manager.

Palermo have made their second change of head coach this season by replacing top-flight novice Roberto De Zerbi with former Chievo boss Eugenio Corini.

The Serie A basement boys have lost seven games in a row, winning only one this term, and 37-year-old De Zerbi has paid the price.

A statement on Palermo's official website said Corini would take control of first-team affairs, becoming the third man to pick the team in 2016-17 after De Zerbi and his predecessor Davide Ballardini.

Serie A high-flyers Lazio edged past relegation candidates Palermo by a solitary strike from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

On paper it should have been a mismatch, with the hosts on a run of six successive defeats and the Biancocelesti unbeaten since September 20, but the eventual scoreline left Lazio sweating until the final whistle.

Simone Inzaghi's side had the best of the match and created plenty of chances to make their lead more comfortable but had to settle for a narrow win, Milinkovic-Savic finishing...

Bologna broke their barren run of seven Serie A games without a win thanks to a comfortable 3-1 triumph over Palermo at Stadio Renato Dall'Ara.

Palermo, who have now lost six successive league matches, took the lead on nine minutes after Bruno Henrique pounced on a defensive mistake before squaring to Ilija Nestorovski to tap in.

Mattia Destro equalised for the hosts with his fourth goal of the season after heading in Federico Viviani's cross to leave the two sides level at the break.

Palermo's poor form slowing down sale of club - president Maurizio Zamparini

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini is looking to sell the club.

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini says that negotiations to sell the club to a group of Chinese investors are progressing, although their league form is not helping.

The Rosaneri are currently second from bottom in Serie A with just six points from their first 12 games.

Palermo are four points from safety with almost a third of the season gone and the threat of relegation is scaring off potential investors, though Zamparini is determined to sell the club and hopes it will happen sooner rather...
