Sundowns and Pirates draw as Bloem Celtic stun Bidvest Wits

Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates played to a goalless draw in their crunch Absa Premiership clash at Loftus Stadium on Saturday, while 10-man Bidvest Wits lost 2-1 at home after a late rally from Bloemfontein Celtic.

Pirates extended their lead at the top of the table to three points ahead of Wits, though they have played two games more.

Perhaps the big talking point in their clash with Sundowns was a skirmish between the two dugouts late in the first half as a home fan appeared to make his...

Sundowns, Pirates primed for top-of-the-table clash

Two of this season's Absa Premiership title contenders go head to head on Saturday when defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns host in-form Orlando Pirates at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Sundowns have stuttered along in the defence of their title, but looked much more assured and clinical in the midweek 3-1 home success over Free State Stars.

There was finally a goal for New Zealand forward Jeremy Brockie after a wait of 378 days and 35 matches, while Uruguayan forward Gaston Sirino showed...

Moses Mabhida Stadium to host Soweto Derby Telkom Knockout semifinal

The Premier Soccer League has confirmed that the Telkom Knockout semifinal between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will be staged at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

The venue for the fixture had been a hot topic of debate after it was revealed that the FNB Stadium, the 90,000-seater regular home of the Soweto Derby, was unavailable having been booked for another event.

The league has now confirmed the match will take place in Durban on Saturday, November 24 at 15h00,...

Kaizer Chiefs fans allowed at Moses Mabhida Stadium for Telkom Knockout quarterfinal

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) have announced the fixtures for the quarterfinals of the Telkom Knockout this weekend but may have scored an own-goal with their choice of venue for Sunday's clash between Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United.

The match will take place at the Moses Mabhida Stadium and should be the second fixture to be played behind closed doors by Chiefs as part of a punishment handed down by the PSL for fan misbehaviour in the Nedbank Cup semifinals last season.

Sredojevic hails Pirates' character in Soweto Derby success

Orlando Pirates are basking in the glory of yet more Soweto Derby success as Saturday's 2-1 win over arch rivals Kaizer Chiefs ensured their unbeaten run in the 'clasico' of South African football stretched to 10 games.

Pirates coach Micho Sredojevic, whose four derbies have delivered two wins and two draws, hailed the performance of his players as he spoke to reporters after the game.

"It was a match that brings the country to a standstill and carries with it so much pressure and stress," he said.
