Caretaker manager Terry Skiverton is expected to make changes for the visit of Oldham after the defeat to Walsall.

Nathan Smith missed out with a gashed eyelid, but is expected to be fit to return, while Fulham loanee Stephen Arthurworrey is also pushing for a recall after he was rested.

Liam Davis made a first start since November on Tuesday, but two games in a week may prove to be too much for the winger who experienced tightness in the groin towards the end of the game.

Mike Jones scored a brilliant free-kick to end Oldham's run of three straight defeats with a hard-earned 1-0 victory at Port Vale.

Oldham should have taken a 13th-minute lead when Jonathan Forte blazed wide from Dominic Poleon's cross when it looked easier to score.

A goal looked unlikely before half-time until Vale defender Chris Robertson was penalised for a 42nd-minute push on Forte 25 yards out.

Jones stepped up to curl a stunning right-footed free-kick over the defensive wall and high inside Chris...

Paul Scholes will manage Oldham 'one day,' says club chairman

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has been a lifelong fan of Oldham Athletic.

Oldham say they would "love" to appoint Paul Scholes their next manager but revealed the former Manchester United midfielder has not applied for the job.

Scholes is a lifelong Oldham fan and served on interim United manager Ryan Giggs' backroom staff at the end of last season and occasionally takes coaching sessions for Athletic.

But although Oldham chairman Simon Corney believes Scholes will manage the League One club one day, he does not expect it to be soon.

Corney told BBC Radio Manchester:...

Preston made it five straight league wins with a crushing 4-0 victory at managerless Oldham.

A polished display saw North End totally dominate their Lancashire rivals and step up their bid for automatic promotion.

Oldham caretaker boss Dean Holden, in charge for the first time after Lee Johnson's move to Barnsley, found his squad decimated by injuries.

And Preston scored within the first two minutes as Paul Gallagher's right-wing corner was powerfully headed home from eight yards by Paul Huntington.

Barnsley appoint ex-Oldham boss Lee Johnson as manager

Barnsley have announced the appointment of former Oldham boss Lee Johnson as their new manager.

Johnson, 33, currently the third youngest Football League manager, was unveiled at Oakwell on Wednesday afternoon after signing a contract until 2018. He becomes Barnsley's sixth permanent boss in less than six years.

The League One club, who sacked former boss Danny Wilson 13 days ago, have agreed an undisclosed compensation package with Oldham as Johnson had signed an extended deal in January 2014 to...
