Portland Timbers sign Brian Fernandez from Necaxa as Designated Player

Sebastian Blanco and Diego Valeri both scored for the Portland Timbers as they beat Real Salt Lake 2-1 for their third win in a row.

The Portland Timbers have acquired forward Brian Fernandez from Necaxa, the clubs announced on Monday.

ESPN FC sources didn't divulge the precise fee, but they did reveal that it dwarfs the previous club record of close to $5 million the Timbers paid for Lucas Melano back in 2017, though it's not as high as the $12 million previously reported.

Carlos Pena joins Necaxa on loan from Rangers as Cruz Azul spell cut short

Carlos Pena failed to score in 10 appearances for Cruz Azul.

Carlos Pena has joined Necaxa on loan after fellow Mexican club Cruz Azul ended his year-long move from Rangers six months early.

Pena, 28, will play for Necaxa for the remainder of his loan time after Pedro Caixinha, his former manager at Rangers, cut his spell at Cruz Azul short.

Necaxa posted confirmation of the transfer on Twitter, writing: "Welcome, @G27Gullit To defend these colours," while Cruz Azul tweeted to thank him for his service.

Ex-Necaxa forward Ezequiel Orozco dies after battle with lung cancer

Ezequiel Orozco scored 18 goals in his professional career.

Former Necaxa striker Ezequiel Orozco has died after a battle with lung cancer, Liga Bancomer confirmed on Friday.

"The Mexican footballing family will remember him as a warrior on and off the field and especially for being the great person he was," the league said in a statement.

Orozco, 29, came up through the Necaxa youth system and made his professional debut with the club in 2009.

U.S. international Ventura Alvarado joins Necaxa from Santos Laguna

United States defender Ventura Alvarado has signed for Necaxa from Santos Laguna, with Mexican winger Jesus Isijara moving the other way.

Phoenix native Alvarado came through Club America's youth system ranks and had a previous stint with Necaxa back in 2013-14, when the club was in the second division.

Matias Fernandez released by Fiorentina, expected to join Necaxa

Fiorentina have released Matias Fernandez from his contract and the midfielder is expected to complete a move to Mexican outfit Club Necaxa in the coming days.

Fernandez, capped more than 70 times by Chile, moved to La Viola five years ago and went on to make 131 appearances but spent last season on loan at AC Milan after falling out of favour at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
