Two Ligue 1 matches postponed due to security concerns

Two Ligue 1 matches have been postponed at the request of authorities.

Nice's home game against Saint-Etienne on Friday and Saturday's match between Nantes and Montpellier will be played at a later date.

The French league says the reason for both cancellations is because police forces are being stretched.

However, the league says it may move the match between Nice and Saint-Etienne to Sunday in order to avoid a backlog because both sides had their games postponed last weekend amid security concerns...

Chelsea have sent United States international Matt Miazga on a season-long loan to Nantes and given the French club the option to make the deal permanent next summer.

Miazga, 23, also signed a new contract with Chelsea through the 2021-22 season.

The New York Red Bulls product joined Chelsea in January 2016 and made two Premier League starts for the Blues that April.

Chelsea loaning U.S. defender Matt Miazga to Nantes - source

Chelsea and United States defender Matt Miazga is on his way to France to finalize a season-long loan move to Ligue 1 side Nantes, a source confirmed to ESPN FC.

If all goes as expected, including the completion of a medical, Miazga will spend the 2018-19 season with the Canaries.

Caen, who narrowly avoided relegation from Ligue 1 last season, had also been chasing Miazga, but the U.S. international ultimately decided to go with Nantes, who finished ninth in May.

Nantes hire coach Miguel Cardoso to replace Claudio Ranieri

Nantes hired Portuguese coach Miguel Cardoso on Wednesday to succeed Claudio Ranieri.

Cardoso, 46, was in charge of Rio Ave last season as the club finished fifth in the Primeira Liga and earned a spot in the Europa League.

Formerly an assistant for Braga, Sporting Lisbon and Shakhtar Donetsk, Cardoso signed a two-year contract with Nantes.

Ranieri, the former Leicester City and Chelsea boss, announced last month that he was leaving Nantes after one season following a ninth-place finish.

New York City FC manager Patrick Vieira is wanted by Nantes to replace Claudio Ranieri after the former Leicester, Chelsea and Juventus manager left the club.
