Saphir Taider played at the last World Cup with Algeria.

The Montreal Impact signed Algeria international midfielder Saphir Taider as a designated player from sister club Bologna on Monday.

Taider, 25, arrives as a replacement for Blerim Dzemaili, who returned to Bologna in Serie A this month after spending last year on loan in Montreal. Both clubs are owned by Joey Saputo.

The Impact said Taider signed "a three-year deal, including a two-year loan" from Bologna, with Montreal also holding a club option for 2021 if he becomes a permanent...

Blerim Dzemaili seals return to Bologna after Montreal loan

Blerim Dzemaili completed his return to Serie A side Bologna on Friday after a year on loan in MLS with the Montreal Impact.

Both clubs are owned by Canadian businessman Joey Saputo. Impact coach Remi Garde said last week that Dzemaili had requested the move.

Dzemaili said on Thursday that he was happy to be back in Italy.

"I had a truly wonderful campaign last season, I got very attached to the club and this is why I asked the president to come back," he said. "My decision to return to Italy was...

LAFC picks Akron's Joao Moutinho with top pick in MLS SuperDraft

Former Akron University star Joao Moutinho says he's ecstatic about playing for Bob Bradley after being selected No. 1 overall by LAFC in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft.
Bob Bradley discusses what it's been like putting a team together from scratch for the second time in MLS as LAFC continue preparing for their inaugural season.

LAFC selected a pair of full-backs with two of the first three picks in Friday's MLS SuperDraft for college players, starting with Akron's Joao Moutinho with the top selection.

But perhaps the biggest news to come out of the draft came when hosts Philadelphia Union sent $1.2 million in allocation to the Chicago Fire for winger David Accam.

Moutinho, who turned 20 last week, is primarily a left-back but can play in both defense and midfield. The Portugal native scored three goals with five...

Michael Petrasso is returning to Canada with the Montreal Impact.

The Montreal Impact signed right-back Michael Petrasso from Queens Park Rangers on Thursday.

The 22-year-old had been with the English Championship club for the past six years, but mutually agreed to terminate his contract last week. He signed a two-year deal with a club option for a third.

He spent much of his time in England on loan to a series of clubs in League One, but he did appear in 11 Championship games for QPR.

A product of Toronto FC's academy, Petrasso has earned eight caps...

Montreal Impact agree to terms with ex-Galaxy keeper Clement Diop

Clement Diop moves to Montreal from the LA Galaxy.

The Montreal Impact signed former LA Galaxy goalkeeper Clement Diop to a one-year deal on Tuesday.

Montreal had already secured Diop's rights in the waiver draft last month and the parties have now agreed personal terms, including options for three additional years.

"I am very pleased to be able to count on Clément for the next few seasons," Impact head coach Remi Garde said in a statement released by the club. "Despite receiving other offers, he made the choice to continue his development...
