Melbourne City came out victorious against their cross-town rivals Victory in a spiteful derby, despite keeping Tim Cahill on the bench for almost 80 minutes.

For the second time in as many rounds, Bruce Kamau came up trumps for Melbourne City, scoring the winner in his side's 2-1 derby win over cross-town rivals Melbourne Victory.

Kamau settled a tense and tight A-League match by running the length of the field from a Victory corner to score in the 64th minute.

Marcin Budzinski and Leroy George earlier scored their first goals in Australia before Kamau's speed broke open the contest.

On the back of his round one double, Kamau is now on top of the A-League...

A-League champions Sydney FC continued their streak of dominance over Melbourne Victory, winning 1-0 in Saturday night's grand final rematch.

An own goal from defender Thomas Deng early in the second half was all the Sky Blues needed as they opened their title defence with an assured, confident performance in front of 24,808 fans at Etihad Stadium.

Deng, 20, couldn't react quickly enough when a cross from Luke Wilkshire took the slightest glance off Alex Brosque's forehead and landed at his feet....
