Melbourne City claim historic third W-League title

Melbourne City's Jess Fishlock netted a first-half goal before assisting Jodie Taylor in the second-half to secure their third W-League title in a row.

Melbourne City have clinched a historic W-League three-peat with a 2-0 triumph over Sydney FC.

Jess Fishlock was the difference between the grand finalists on Sunday, netting a first-half screamer and then a dazzling second-half free kick to set up Jodie Taylor in front of a record crowd of 6,025 at Allianz Stadium.

It is the second-straight season City have come from a fourth-placed finish to clinch the main prize following their 2016 whitewash in the club's debut campaign.

The Uruguayan played the final half hour of the match after more than five months out with an ankle injury.

He looked a shadow of the striker who has scored 40 goals in his first two A-League seasons, but City's captain was delighted to just...
