To beat Man City, you need to press them but it's easier said than done

Craig Burley examines Manchester City's back line after their loss to Liverpool and weighs in on whether additions are needed in January.

Former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol describes his wave of emotions and explains what Jurgen Klopp's side did right in their win over Man City.

We're 23 games into the 38-game Premier League season and Pep Guardiola's Manchester City have finally been defeated. Sunday's wild 4-3 defeat at Anfield was, in truth, a much tighter game than the scoreline suggests, the goals tally boosted by a couple of defensive errors and some excellent finishing.

Nevertheless, Liverpool's approach should be commended: they pressed in advanced positions to force those defensive errors at the start of the second half and City's upcoming opponents will consider...

Man City's loss to Liverpool leaves Pep Guardiola with questions about squad

A curious sense of calm fell across the away support at Anfield as it dawned on them that their team was, after all, still fallible, still human and, on this occasion, in patches still a tiny bit useless. Manchester City's 30-game unbeaten run in the Premier League came to an abrupt and somewhat chaotic end.

The run, unparalleled in City's history and the sixth longest in the English top flight, is bookended by a defeat in London to Chelsea on Apr. 5 and Sunday's trip to the red side of Liverpool.

Pep Guardiola unfazed by high expectations for Man City

Pep Guardiola says Manchester City's loss to Liverpool is more proof the title race has yet to be decided in the Premier League.

Manchester City's standards have been set so high that following their 4-3 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday, one English newspaper's sport section read: "Souvenir Edition -- City lose football match." While it was a tongue-in-cheek reaction to the end of City's 22-game unbeaten start to the season, it highlights what an incredible run of results Pep Guardiola's side have put together.

It's just over five months since the season kicked off and after 34 games, City have finally suffered their first...

Pep Guardiola congratulated Liverpool on their victory against Man City, but said his players got too involved in the Anfield atmosphere.
Jurgen Klopp says Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is developing well at Liverpool because he is playing in his 'dream' midfield role.

With Liverpool's 4-3 victory over Manchester City, Jurgen Klopp consolidated his status as Pep Guardiola's nemesis.

No manager who has managed more than 10 matches against Guardiola has a better record than Klopp, with the German boss winning six of their 12 meetings -- a superior record than such luminaries as Jose Mourinho.

Klopp and Guardiola's rivalry started in the Bundesliga -- at Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich respectively -- and has been renewed in the Premier League with their contrasting...

Defeat at Liverpool showed Man City need help defensively, not up front

LIVERPOOL, England -- No defeat is easy to take -- especially when it is the first of the season -- but if Manchester City are to enjoy the greatest campaign in the club's history, Pep Guardiola and his players may come to regard the day they lost 4-3 at Liverpool as the most important result of them all.

Some perspective is required at the end of City's 30-game unbeaten Premier League run. Ahead of Manchester United's Old Trafford encounter with Stoke City on Monday, the leaders remain 15 points...

Aguero ineffective as Man City lack punch in loss at Liverpool

Manchester City's unbeaten "start" to the season came to an end in a mad 10-minute spell at Anfield, falling 4-3 on Sunday. In truth, this was comfortably the worst performance of the campaign for Pep Guardiola's men -- hardly a surprise at Liverpool, given it's what City do -- and too many players had an off day to have deserved more than nothing. Nevertheless, a late rally almost got them an undeserved point.
