Alisson 8/10 as Liverpool hang tough before grabbing dramatic late win vs. Everton

Substitute Divock Origi capitalized on a misjudged save from Jordan Pickford to clinch the Merseyside Derby for Liverpool in extra time.
Unable to contain his emotions, Jurgen Klopp took to the pitch to celebrate Divock Origi's stoppage-time winner with Liverpool goalkeeper, Alisson.
Divock Origi and Virgil Van Dijk break down Origi's last-gasp winner for Liverpool in the Merseyside derby against Everton.

LIVERPOOL, England -- Divock Origi scored a dramatic injury-time winner in the 232nd Merseyside derby to ensure Liverpool keep pace with Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Origi, an 84th-minute substitute, headed in from inches out after an error from Jordan Pickford in the dying seconds to hand Liverpool a 1-0 win at Anfield on Sunday.

Positives

Liverpool will just not let up. Four points would have been a massive gap against this record-breaking Manchester City side is a massive gap. The gap remains at two and a win like this can reignite seasons. Furthermore, could this be what sparks the revival in Origi's Liverpool career?

Negatives

Liverpool should have found the back of the net well before they did. Everton had chances to win the game themselves, but try telling that to Liverpool supporters as they left Anfield at full-time.

Manager rating out of 10

8 -- Needing a goal with 15 minutes to play, Liverpool supporters were a little bemused to see Mohamed Salah subbed off. Then Roberto Firmino comes off for Origi. These were brave moves from Klopp, but ones that keep Liverpool's title hopes alive.

Player ratings: (1-10; 10=best. Players introduced after 70 minutes get no rating)

GK Alisson, 8 -- Made two crucial interventions in the first half. His save to deny Andre Gomes a certain goal from close range was a world-class stop.

DF Trent Alexander-Arnold, 6 -- Solid defensively and enjoyed getting forward in the final third. Poor delivery from crosses and set-pieces, though.

DF Joe Gomez, 6 -- Gomez was on hand to make a goal-line clearance in the aftermath of Gomes' chance. Another assured performance from the 21-year-old.

DF Virgil van Dijk, 6 -- It was his mis-hit shot that led to the goal. Nothing wrong with the centre-half's performance either.

Alisson, left, made a string of stunning saves to keep Everton out, setting the tone for Liverpool's dramatic late win.

DF Andrew Robertson, 6 -- A good performance from the Scot, who had to deal with the pace of Theo Walcott and then Ademola Lookman.

MF Georginio Wijnaldum, 5 -- An OK, if not eye-catching, display. However, Anfield voiced its displeasure at some of his backwards passes in the second half as they craved a goal.

MF Fabinho, 7 -- Considering the summer signing struggled to deal with the pace of last month's Arsenal clash, Fabinho played well in what was a frantic game. He gets forward more than you think he would.

FW Xherdan Shaqiri, 6 -- Played very central and saw lots of the ball. He always tries to make an impact and could have had a goal and a number of assists on another day.

FW Mohamed Salah, 6 -- Had Yerry Mina following him for all of the game. The Egyptian toiled hard once again, but was starved of clear-cut opportunities before being withdrawn.

FW Roberto Firmino, 4 -- Continues to look massively out of sorts and it must be a concern to Klopp. Sluggish and wasteful in the No. 10 role again.

FW Sadio Mane, 5 -- Missed a glorious chance in the 12th minute to put Liverpool ahead and then another in the second half. He deserves credit for getting himself in those positions, although his finishing was unusually wayward.

Substitutes

MF Naby Keita, N/R -- Didn't have too big of an impact after coming on with less than 20 minutes remaining.

FW Daniel Sturridge, N/R -- The striker was creative during his 15-minute cameo. Origi's goal may mean he has more competition for games now, though.

FW Divock Origi, N/R -- The unlikely hero. He hit the bar from close range minutes before and was there at the right place when Pickford had a moment to forget. The Belgian has not been the same player since suffering an ankle injury against Everton in 2016. At 23 though, there's still time for a resurgence. He will always be remembered for this goal.
