Top 5 Suarez moments at Liverpool

Liverpool legend Steve Nicol expresses his feelings on Luis Suarez leaving Liverpool for Barcelona.

There were plenty of controversial moments during Luis Suarez's tenure at Liverpool, but the Uruguayan also lit up the Premier League with some wonderful performances. As he makes the move to Barcelona, let's look at five of the best things he did in the Prem.

Jan. 28, 2011 -- Signs with Liverpool

Coming off a season in which he netted 35 goals in 33 games for Dutch side Ajax, Suarez opted to move to Liverpool in a deal worth up to 22.8 million pounds. The fans at Anfield didn't have to wait long to see their new signing score as he netted on his Liverpool debut in a 2-0 victory over Stoke -- a low shot which went in off the boot of defender Andy Wilkinson. In March, Suarez showed his full potential as he dismantled Manchester United with two assists in a 3-1 win. Four goals in 13 games in his first half-season for the club ended with a summer of personal success, as well -- he was named player of the tournament as Uruguay won the Copa America.

LUIS SUAREZ 2013-14 SEASON IN NUMBERS

31 - Premier League goals, winning the Golden Boot.
12 - Most assists in the Premier League.
24 - Scored the most goals from inside the box.
4 - Scored the most goals from counterattacks.
•  9 - Had the most shots that hit the woodwork.
•  3 - Most penalties won in the Premier League.
• 237 - Attempted more dribbles than any other player.

Oct. 28, 2012 -- Dives at David Moyes' feet

Winning over the fans is a key part of joining a new club, and if Suarez's goals and skills had not done so already, then showing a sense of humour and poking fun at your bitter rival's manager is sure to do it. "I would [be concerned about Suarez] because I think he has got a history [of diving]. But I am not the referee, I am not the one that [makes decisions]. But I tell you what -- it will turn the supporters away from football if they think players are conning their way to results," said Everton manager David Moyes ahead of the Merseyside derby. Suarez's reaction after scoring in a heated 2-2 draw -- a mock dive at Moyes' feet -- was priceless. The irony was that Toffees captain Phil Neville was booked for simulation during the match.

Luis Suarez was a constant source of controversy during his time in England, but he also provided some memorable moments -- like this cheeky celebration away at Everton.

Nov. 4, 2012 -- Stunning goal against Newcastle

Control is one of the most difficult things in football. You can spend hours practising to hone your skills, but the best players just naturally know what to do with the ball. In this case, a combination of attributes helped the striker to score one of the best goals of the season. A run between defenders to find an inch of space gave Suarez the chance to perform the move; a deft touch of shoulder and chest brought a 50-yard pass into his control; his strength held off the defender; his technique and balance helped him take the ball past the advancing goalkeeper; and his coolness enabled him to finish what he had started. Commentator Martin Tyler observed on Sky Sports: "That is the touch of a genius." And it is hard to argue with him.

Dec. 4, 2013 -- The dismantling of Norwich City

To think, Suarez once struggled to score against Norwich at Anfield. His first of three hat tricks against them came in April 2012, and after this game his tally reached 11 in five games as he struck four goals of sublime quality to condemn the Canaries to a 5-1 defeat. An opportunistic long-range lob caught out goalkeeper John Ruddy from 35 yards for his first; his second was a flashed volley; the third a dink over Leroy Fer and perfect half-volley; his fourth a stunning free kick from 25 yards. For good measure, Suarez set up Raheem Sterling for the fifth. He reached his 50th goal for Liverpool in his 85th game for the club, and Norwich were pleased to get out of Merseyside that night.

April 20-27, 2014 -- Awards and records fall

Once again, poor Norwich were the victims as Suarez netted the second goal in a 3-2 win to become the first Liverpool player to score 30 league goals in a season since Ian Rush in 1987. He also joined a short list of seven players to reach that mark in the Premier League era. The others are Andy Cole, Alan Shearer, Kevin Phillips, Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robin van Persie. Within a week, the Uruguayan walked away with the Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year award -- the first non-European to do so -- and then the Football Writers' Association Player of the Year award. The Premier League Golden Boot prize also came his way after he bagged 31 goals in 33 games.
