Edinson Cavani brace boosts PSG to within point of Ligue 1 lead

Edison Cavani scored both goals in PSG's win over Nantes, bringing his Ligue 1 goal tally to 20.

Edinson Cavani maintained his prolific goal scoring form with both goals as Paris Saint-Germain climbed to within a point of Ligue 1 leaders Nice following a 2-0 win at Nantes.

Uruguay international Cavani opened the scoring midway through the first half and made it 26 goals in as many matches for PSG in all competitions this season by adding a second in the 65th minute.

The victory lifts Unai Emery's side level on points with second-placed Monaco and one behind Nice, who were held to a 1-1 draw...

Lille owner Gerard Lopez 'optimistic' about Marcelo Bielsa appointment

Marcelo Bielsa has previous experience of Ligue 1 with Marseille.

Lille's new owner remains "optimistic" about the appointment of Marcelo Bielsa as coach, despite the announcement being held up by a "private" matter.

Bielsa, 61, has been linked to Lille ever since Gerard Lopez's takeover was announced earlier this season. Lopez, an ex-Formula One team owner, has now completed his purchase of the 2010-11 French double winners, who remain without a permanent coach since Frederic Antonetti was sacked in late November.

Substitute Nicolas de Preville salvaged a point for Lille in a 1-1 draw with St Etienne at Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Friday.

Romain Hamouma put the visitors in front after 17 minutes as they looked to bounce back from two games without a win.

But De Preville's powerful 71st-minute effort drew Lille level and the same player came close to grabbing a winner when he hit the frame of the goal with two minutes left.

Julian Draxler scores on PSG debut to cap rout in Coupe de France

Julian Draxler scored the last of PSG's seven goals on Saturday.

Julian Draxler scored in his first competitive game for Paris Saint-Germain as they routed fellow Ligue 1 side Bastia 7-0 in the Coupe de France.

The Germany international signed a four-and-a-half year deal after completing his move from Wolfsburg and, after playing in a friendly in Tunisia in midweek, came off the bench to score PSG's final goal on Saturday.

Thiago Silva scored the opener after a half-hour, heading home following a corner before Adrien Rabiot doubled the lead from long range.

Portugal striker Eder salvaged a 1-1 draw for Lille in Ligue 1 with a late goal to deny Rennes at the death.

Eder bagged just his fourth goal of the season, finding the net in the 89th minute to deflate the visitors at the last.

Winger Paul-Georges Ntep had put the travelling side ahead in the first half, with his second goal of the campaign.

But just when Rennes were gearing up for their first win in four games in all competitions, up popped Eder with the equaliser, laid on by Julian Palmieri.
