Juanfran began his career at Levante and returned for his second spell six years ago.

Levante captain Juanfran has announced his retirement following his side's relegation from the Primera Division.

Les Granotes' six-year stay in Spain's top flight came to an end after Monday's 3-1 defeat to Malaga.

Levante have two games remaining this season, against Atletico Madrid and Real Vallecano, with Juanfran expected to feature.

The 39-year-old, who began his career at the club before returning to Estadio Ciudad de Valencia in 2010, said: "These are not easy situations when one is not...

Late goals from Duje Cop and Gonzalo Castro broke Levante's hearts and confirmed their relegation from the Primera Division as Malaga won 3-1 at La Rosaleda.

Levante, bottom of the table and six points from safety, knew defeat would see them return to the Segunda and things looked grim when Cop put the hosts ahead. However, Jose Luis Morales' quick reply gave them hope.

Rubi's side controversially had a goal ruled out for offside midway through the second half which would have seen them take the lead...

Levante are on the brink of relegation after throwing away a two-goal lead late on to draw 2-2 at home to Athletic Bilbao.

Victor Casadesus put the hosts in front after 13 minutes and Xabier Etxeita's own goal in the 67th looked to have sealed victory for the struggling Valencia club which would have boosted their chances of survival.

But a strike from Markel Susaeta pulled Athletic back into the game in the 88th minute, and Mikel San Jose stunned the home fans by levelling with a half volley in injury...

Youssef El Arabi's hat-trick snatched a La Liga lifeline as Granada hammered Levante 5-1 to climb out of the drop zone and consign their relegation rivals to the foot of the table.

Isaac Success, El Arabi and Ruben Rochina all found the net in a first-half blitz that stunned the visitors and all-but sealed victory by the break.

Ruben Garcia hit back for Levante with less than 10 minutes to play, only for El Arabi to convert his second spot-kick three minutes later.

And in the third minute of added time...

Levante boosted their survival prospects with a come-from-behind win over Espanyol, whose 2-1 defeat at Estadi Ciutat de Valencia leaves them just eight points clear of the Primera Division drop zone.

The visitors went ahead as early as the seventh minute through Paraguay international Hernan Perez, but they were pegged back midway through the first half following Giuseppe Rossi's free-kick.

Carl Medjani then got the faintest of touches to a ball into the area in the 67th minute as Levante claimed...
