Bastia needed Guillaume Gillet's second-half equaliser to rescue a 1-1 draw at home to newly-promoted Lens in Ligue 1.

An even first half sprung into life shortly before the interval when Pablo Chavarria found the net but Gillet's cool finish early in the second period ensured the spoils were shared.

Lens have made an impressive start in the top tier and the result leaves them 10th in the table, three points behind league leaders Bordeaux.

Bastia are 14th having taken six points from their first five...

Bastia hit back at French government over fan ban for Lens game

Violent clashes took place during Bastia's game at home to Marseille last month.

Bastia have reacted angrily to the French Interior Minister's decision to ban Lens fans from travelling to Corsica for Saturday's Ligue 1 fixture.

Bernard Cazeneuve took the step in response to violence at Bastia's home game with Marseille on the opening day of the season, when pitched battles outside the Stade Furiani left a reported 44 police officers injured.

Though no such step was taken for Bastia's home game with Toulouse last month -- as the south-westerners have very small travelling support...

Lens blame owner Hafiz Mammadov for lack of transfers

Lens head coach Antoine Kombouare hasn't been able to make any moves in the transfer window.

Lens have claimed owner Hafiz Mammadov did not provide the funds required to allow them to strengthen their squad before the transfer window closed.

The northerners finally saw their promotion to the top flight validated by the DNCG, French football's financial watchdog, just before the start of the season after initially being told their uncertain financial situation would see them remain in Ligue 2.

However, despite giving last season's second-tier runners-up the green light, the DNCG told them...

Lens took full advantage of an ill-disciplined performance from Reims to post a 4-2 win at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis on Saturday night.

The visitors took an early lead through Aissa Mandi but then imploded, with the 25th-minute dismissal of Prince Oniangue allowing Lens to turn things around with goals either side of the interval from Wylan Cyprien and Pablo Chavarria.

The home side then stretched their advantage with a penalty from Yoann Touzghar, and although Gaetan Courtet pulled one back for Reims,...
