Liga MX W2W4: Necaxa and Chivas face off in top-five clash; potential debuts for Salcedo, Layun

Along with Monterrey, upstart Necaxa remain one of the two unbeaten sides in all of Liga MX.
Along with Monterrey, upstart Necaxa remain one of the two unbeaten sides in all of Liga MX.

It's almost time for Week 6 of the 2019 Clausura! Before Liga MX returns with another set of highly anticipated matches, here are three things to watch out for:

Top-five sides Necaxa and Chivas do battle

Any doubts regarding Necaxa were completely smashed last week after Los Rayos achieved a 4-1 away win over Puebla. Although the opposition wasn't exactly one of the most intimidating in the league, key players such as Brian Fernandez and Angel Sepulveda were brilliant for a Necaxa side that now...

Meet Sambu the lion cub, Club Leon's new mascot named after Rubens Sambueza

True to their name, Mexican side Club Leon have appointed a fearsome new mascot: an actual, real-life lion.

Three cubs were recently born at Leon Zoo, one of which -- Sambu -- was named after Leon's new signing, midfielder Rubens Sambueza.

As well as his 34-year-old namesake, Sambu has also joined the club as their new official mascot.

Sambu was sworn in at an unveiling ceremony that saw the youngster sign up as a club member -- using a paw print, naturally.

While critics maintain that he's still...

Leon's Mauro Boselli passes 100 Liga MX career goals; Cruz Azul stay unbeaten

Leon striker Mauro Boselli passed 100 Liga MX goals for his career with a brace in a 2-0 home win over America

Boselli sank a header into the net off a Fernando Navarro volley in the 14th minute to reach the milestone on a rainy Wednesday night at Estadio Leon.  He added his second of the match with a converted penalty in the 65th minute.

The Argentinian joins Adalberto Lopez as the only two players in Leon history to reach the milestone in Liga MX.

"It's an honor to manage of a...

Club Leon and Landon Donovan part ways ahead of 2018 Apertura

Landon Donovan and Club Leon are parting ways before the end of his contract, the club announced in a statement on Sunday.

Donovan came out of retirement for a second time in January to join the Liga MX club, but he didn't feature regularly for the club as Leon finished 13th in the 2018 Clausura standings.

The 36-year-old's contract ran through the end of 2018, but the announcement confirmed that he won't compete with the club in the upcoming Apertura this fall.

The Leon statement read in part:...

Club Leon's Landon Donovan scores winner in return to San Jose

Landon Donovan scored the only goal of the night as Club Leon defeated the San Jose Earthquakes 1-0 in a friendly at the Avaya Stadium on Saturday.

The United States international, who played for the Quakes between 2001 and 2004, hit a sweet strike on the turn in the 19th minute.

The hosts had their chances to equalise, but sent three good chances over the crossbar in the first 45 minutes.

Donovan, 36, came out of retirement for the second time to join Leon in January, but has so far struggled...
