Hellas Verona seal promotion back to Serie A over Frosinone

Hellas Verona are back in Serie A following their relegation last season.

Hellas Verona sealed an immediate return to Serie A with a draw on the final day of the Serie B season on Thursday.

Verona's goalless draw at Cesena was enough to see them finish second above Frosinone thanks to the head-to-head tiebreaker.

Frosinone beat Pro Vercelli 2-1 but will settle for the playoffs alongside Benevento, Spezia, Cittadella, Carpi and Perugia.

Frosinone would have avoided the playoffs if they had ended the regular season 10 points clear of fourth place. However, Perugia and Benevento...

Hellas Verona fan receives stadium ban for wearing swim trunks and flip flops

One pioneering fan of Serie B side Hellas Verona has been handed a ban for the crime of turning up for a match while wearing a bathrobe, swimming trunks and a pair of flip flops.

Indeed, the fan sported the aforementioned ensemble to watch Hellas play at Avellino's Stadio Partenio Lombardi on Feb. 11.

According to Mediaset, he has since been issued with a DASPO (effectively a nationwide stadium ban), as it wasn't the hero of the hour's first offence.

Rather amusingly, the as-yet unnamed supporter...

Car carrying Luca Toni and Hellas Verona president attacked
A car carrying Luca Toni, left, and Hellas Verona club president Maurizio Setti came under attack on the way to a match in Avellino.

AVELLINO, Italy -- Italy World Cup winner Luca Toni and the president of Serie B club Hellas Verona had their car attacked while traveling to a match on Saturday in the southern town of Avellino.

Toni, who is part of Verona's management team, says the aggressors mistook them for fans because club president Maurizio Setti was wearing a scarf with the team's colours.

Toni told Italy's Sky TV that a window of the car was broken where Setti was sitting and that the president was hit by a bottle of beer.

Manchester City midfielder Bruno Zuculini has joined Hellas Verona on loan for the rest of the season, linking up with his brother Franco at the Serie B leaders

The 23-year-old Argentinian has yet to make a league appearance for City since joining in 2014 from Racing Club and has spent the interim period on a succession of loan deals, including stints at Valencia, Middlesbrough and AEK Athens.

Coppa Italia: Genoa and Bologna both reach round of 16

Genoa survived a scare to beat Serie B side Perugia 4-3 after extra time in the fourth round of the Coppa Italia.

First-half goals from Giovanni Simeone and Goran Pandev looked to have put the top-flight side on course for victory but Rolando Bianchi and Jean Armel Drole hit back after the break.

Nicolas Burdisso hit the bar late on for Genoa but they went on to win in extra time with a second goal from Pandev and another from Nikola Ninkovic.
