Burnley friendly with Hannover called off following supporter violence

Hannover fans reportedly caused crowd trouble at Burnley.

Burnley's preseason friendly at home to Hannover was abandoned on police advice on Saturday.

The Clarets were leading 1-0 at half-time thanks to a goal from Ben Mee when the announcement came. A short statement on the club's Twitter account read: "Today's game has been abandoned, on police advice."

A match report published on Burnley's official website said there were "concerns over supporter safety following unrest in the Cricket Field Stand, which housed around 500 supporters of the German club"...

Stuttgart and Hannover confirm promotion back to Bundesliga

Stuttgart coach Hannes Wolf is soaked in beer as the celebrations begin.

Stuttgart defeated Wurzburg 4-1 at home to return to the Bundesliga as 2. Bundesliga champions on Sunday, and were joined in the top flight by runners-up Hannover.

Daniel Ginczek set up three goals and scored the fourth for Stuttgart as the 2007 Bundesliga champions finished with 69 points and relegated their opponents.

Hannover, who drew 1-1 at Sandhausen, ended on 67 as both clubs, relegated from the Bundesliga last season, bounced straight back.

Hannover hire Heldt after sacking general manager and sporting director

HANNOVER, Germany -- German second-division side Hannover have sacked their general manager and sporting director to make way for former Schalke GM Horst Heldt.

Hannover, who were relegated from the Bundesliga last season, say Martin Bader and sporting director Christian Moeckel have been let go "with immediate effect."

Supervisory board members decided "the club's sporting leadership needs to be changed" to secure their immediate top-flight return.

Dortmund reach Pokal quarters after shootout with Hertha; Schalke win

Borussia Dortmund needed a penalty shootout to overcome Hertha Berlin on Wednesday to reach the DFB Pokal quarterfinals for the sixth-consecutive year.

Dortmund sealed a 3-2 victory on penalties when Hertha's Salomon Kalou sent his spot kick over the bar, after Fabian Lustenberger's first effort struck the crossbar and then Dortmund `keeper Roman Buerki saved Vladimir Darida's penalty.
