Hamburg SV, Augsburg crash out to minnows in DfB Pokal

Bobby Wood and Hamburg crashed out of the DFB-Pokal at the hands of 3.Liga side Osnabruck, who played 70 minutes with 10 men.

Even against 10 men from the third division, Hamburg SV couldn't get past the German Cup's first round.

VfL Osnabruck beat the Bundesliga side 3-1 on Sunday to repeat its 2009 feat, when it defeated Hamburg on penalties.

There was no need for penalties this time as Osnabruck -- which is yet to win after four games in the third division -- again spoiled Hamburg's start to the season.

The home team played with 10 men for more than 70 minutes after defender Marcel Appiah was sent off for a foul on Bobby...

Hamburg's Jann-Fiete Arp: It doesn't make any sense to join Chelsea at 17

Alexis Nunes and Paul Mariner sift through the latest transfer rumours, including Chelsea's interest in Danny Drinkwater.

Germany youth international Jann-Fiete Arp has said he chose to renew his contract at Hamburg rather than move abroad as it "doesn't make any sense to join Chelsea as a 17-year-old."

After scoring two hat tricks and another goal for Germany in five matches at the recent European Under-21 Championship, Arp reportedly caught the eye of clubs including Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus.

In June, however, the 17-year-old committed his future to Hamburg when signing a contract through to 2019.

Hamburg sign Kyriakos Papadopoulos from Bayer Leverkusen

Kyriakos Papadopoulos spent the second half of last season on loan at Hamburg.

Hamburg have signed defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos on a permanent transfer from Bayer Leverkusen. The 25-year-old joins on a three-year contract.

Greek defender Papadopoulos already spent the second half of the Bundesliga season on loan at Hamburg after failing to secure playing time during a spell at RB Leipzig.

He featured in 15 league games and scored two goals for Hamburg as the club once again secured another year of top-flight football late in the season.

"He gave the team a push during the...
