Hamburg were celebrating for the second week running with Filip Kostic on target in a 1-0 win over Augsburg.

Hamburg came into the game buoyed by their first win of the season a week ago, and they appeared a much more confident side too, until Lewis Holtby lost his mind just before half-time and was shown a red card for aiming an elbow at Dominik Kohr.

Jonathan Schmid set up Halil Altintop for Augsburg's best chance of the game in the 52nd minute, but he made a hash of his first-time shot and sent...

Clint Dempsey, Jozy Altidore on U.S. Player of Year award shortlist

The FC panel answer your tweets on the playoff series between Toronto and Montreal, Bruce Arena's January call-ups and more.

Jozy Altidore, Clint Dempsey, Bobby Wood, Michael Bradley and Geoff Cameron are the players on the five-man shortlist for the 2016 U.S. Soccer Male Player of the Year award, which will be announced on Dec. 9.

Seattle's Dempsey, a three-time winner, last picked up the prize back-to-back in 2011 and 2012, though he has not played since August because of an irregular heartbeat.

Altidore, who collected the honor in 2013, will take the field in the MLS Cup final on Saturday for Toronto FC. He managed...

Hamburg celebrated their first win of the season with a 2-0 triumph at fellow strugglers Darmstadt lifting them off the bottom of the Bundesliga.

Michael Gregoritsch scored for the second week running, after grabbing a brace against Werder Bremen, to put the northern side ahead in a game which was understandably scrappy given the stakes.

Darmstadt tried to respond in the second half, but Matthias Ostrzolek killed the game off in the last minute as Hamburg finally won in the league at the 13th time...

Hamburg's Dennis Diekmeier suffers memory loss after clash of heads

Dennis Diekmeier joined Hamburg from Nurnberg in 2010.
Dennis Diekmeier is reported to have avoided concussion during Hamburg's game vs. Werder Bremen.

Hamburg right-back Dennis Diekmeier has said his memory of the last seven minutes of the derby draw against Werder Bremen has been erased following a clash of heads.

Diekmeier, 27, collided with Bremen's Zlatan Junozvic when contesting a long ball from Bremen goalkeeper Jaroslav Drobny after 57 minutes. The Hamburg defender hit his opponent with his forehead and went to ground, but was able to play on after receiving medical treatment by HSV's staff, with one member of the medical staff appearing...

Hamburg and Werder Bremen remained burdened by relegation worries after the northern Germany rivals drew 2-2 at the Volksparkstadion.

Michael Gregoritsch gave hosts Hamburg the lead with a header from Lewis Holtby's cross in the third minute, but Fin Bartels levelled just 10 minutes later.

Gregoritsch struck again in the 28th minute, but Serge Gnabry's strike on the stroke of half-time proved enough to earn Bremen a point.

As a result, they continue to hold a four-point advantage over their local rivals,...
