Richard Keogh's second-half header edged Derby into the EFL Cup second round with a 1-0 victory over Grimsby at the iPro Stadium.

Portsmouth, Scunthorpe, Shrewsbury, Crewe, Rotherham, Blackpool and Grimsby have all embarrassed the Rams as lower-league opponents in the League Cup in the past decade but the Mariners were unable to add their name to that list for a second time.

Gary Jones' strike gave them a 1-0 win against Phil Brown's Derby team in 2005 but Keogh's diving header on the hour reversed...

Grimsby Town will return to the Football League for the first time since 2010.

Grimsby Town have been promoted to League 2 after beating Forest Green Rovers 3-1 in the National League playoff final at Wembley.

Grimsby, who finished fourth in the league on 80 points, will return to the Football League after suffering relegation back in 2010.

The Lincolnshire side took the lead through a Darren Carter own goal before Omar Bogle headed in the second, ensuring the Mariners were comfortably ahead at the interval.

Forest Green Rovers hit back after the break thanks to a Keanu Marsh-Brown...

Any outside hopes that Grimsby had of catching National League leaders Cheltenham appear to be over after a 2-1 defeat at Macclesfield.

Jack Sampson and Reece Styche were on target for mid-table Macclesfield, scoring either side of Jon Nolan's equaliser for Grimsby.

Grimsby goalkeeper James McKeown repelled a Chris Holroyd shot with his feet early on before preventing a Craig Clay own goal by pushing his header wide.

Sampson steered home Danny Rowe's cross to open the scoring after 25 minutes before...

Grimsby's six-game winning streak in the Vanarama National League came to an end after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Guiseley at Blundell Park.

Guiseley took the lead five minutes before the break when Ollie Norburn lashed in an excellent effort from 20 yards - the first goal Town had conceded in 484 minutes of league play.

But Padraig Amond levelled 18 minutes from time when he supplied a close-range finish to Gregor Robertson's deflected cross - his 17th league goal of the season.

There was late FA Cup heartache for Vanarama Premier side Grimsby as Abu Ogogo struck deep into stoppage-time to earn League One Shrewsbury a 1-0 win.

Micky Mellon's side now face a third-round trip to Sky Bet Championship club Cardiff.

There was little goalmouth action in an uneventful first half, but Grimsby carved out the best chance when midfielder Craig Clay fired over from 12 yards midway through.

Shrewsbury struggled to break down the well-organised visitors, with chances hard to come by.
