I-League clubs request PM to 'intervene and save Indian football'

On the eve of an All India Football Federation (AIFF) executive committee meeting in New Delhi that could decide on their future, six I-League clubs have written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting him to set up an enquiry commission and "probe" the federation's functioning.

Chennai City became the first team from Tamil Nadu to have won the I-League, with a 3-1 win against holders Minerva Punjab in Coimbatore on Saturday. East Bengal were in the title race till the very end, but their win had no influence on the title as Chennai pipped them by one point.

Even as the I-League season heads towards a close finish -- with three teams still in contention for the 2018-19 title -- eight of 11 clubs have written to All India Football Federation (AIFF) president Praful Patel requesting a meeting on February 20 to "seek answers" regarding the league's future.
