Oldham clinched a much-needed 1-0 win against Gillingham in a battle of two teams under new management.

John Sheridan tasted victory at the start of his third spell as Latics boss, while Gillingham were playing their first game since Adrian Pennock replaced the sacked Justin Edinburgh.

The visitors almost grabbed an early opener as Chris Herd's goalbound shot was blocked by Oldham captain Peter Clarke.

But the hosts broke through on 39 minutes when Billy McKay was fouled just outside the box and, from...

Gillingham part ways with manager Justin Edinburgh

Justin Edinburgh is out as Gillingham manager after 11 months.

Justin Edinburgh has been sacked as the manager of League One Gillingham.

The 47-year-old, who took over at Priestfield in February 2015, leaves the Gills 17th in the table following Monday's 1-0 home defeat to Oxford.

His coaching team, including assistant manager David Kerslake, have also had their contracts terminated.

Chairman Paul Scally told the club's website: "Having returned to work yesterday, this is obviously a difficult decision to begin 2017 with.

"I have been very keen to work with...

Cheyenne Dunkley scored the only goal as Oxford edged to a 1-0 win at 10-man Gillingham in a hard-fought battle.

Dunkley's strike was Oxford's first goal in three matches, and means they have now lost just one of their last eight Sky Bet League One matches.

While the visitors started stronger, Gillingham soon crept back into the game with Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Frank Nouble's aerial ability testing the Oxford backline.

The hosts could have taken the lead just before half-time as Emmanuel-Thomas released...

Millwall withstood late pressure to beat nine-man Gillingham 2-1 and record their third consecutive league win.

Lee Gregory rifled home after 13 minutes when the Gills failed to clear their lines after a corner.

Fred Onyedinma doubled the lead after 63 minutes, before Paul Konchesky saw red for his second yellow in eight minutes.

Bradley Dack's 25-yard shot gave the visitors hope, but Millwall deservedly held on.

Baily Cargill grabbed his first Gillingham goal to snatch a last-gasp leveller in a 1-1 draw at Peterborough.

The on-loan Bournemouth defender hooked in a Scott Wagstaff cross in the second minute of stoppage time to ensure the spoils were shared at the ABAX Stadium.

Gillingham had looked to be heading for defeat after substitute Lee Angol fired Posh ahead with 12 minutes to go.

The striker, who suffered a broken leg in pre-season, grabbed his first goal of the campaign with a classy follow-up finish...
