Ghana journalist who helped expose corruption in football shot dead

An investigative journalist in Ghana who helped expose a high-ranking official at world football body FIFA as corrupt was shot dead by gunmen on a motorbike as he drove home alone at night, police said on Thursday.

His employers said he was assassinated.

Ahmed Hussein-Suale was killed late on Wednesday, shot twice in the chest and once in the neck at close range while driving in the suburb of Accra where he lived. He died immediately, according to police.

It has been a cornucopia of women's football for Ghanaians this month, and it has illustrated why there should be hope, but also caution, for the sport in the African country.

Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko have been handed a bye to the First Round of the 2018/2019 CAF Confederation Cup after CAF cancelled their tie against representatives from Cameroon.

The Confederation of African Football made the statement on its Twitter account after the Cameroonian federation failed to nominate their national representatives for the tournament.

"Matches are cancelled, because the deadline for Fecafoot to confirm the engagement of the second representatives for the Total CAF Confederation...

Hosts Ghana will play no further part in the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations after being held 1-1 by Cameroon in their final Group A game at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Ghana have been made to wait until their final group game to book their spot in the Africa Women Cup of Nations semi-final after being defeated 2-1 by Mali in Accra on Tuesday.
