Bologna pulled out of a nosedive towards the Serie A relegation zone by beating Genoa 2-0 at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara.

A nine-game winless run had seen Roberto Donadoni's men tumble down the table and into 16th place but goals from Emanuele Giaccherini and Sergio Floccari saw Bologna reach the security of 40 points for the season.

On-loan Sunderland winger Giaccherini opened the scoring after 12 minutes as he steered Franco Brienza's clever through-ball beyond Eugenio Lamanna.

In the 63rd minute Bologna...

Sebastian De Maio dealt a heavy blow to Inter Milan's hopes of reaching the Champions League places by firing Genoa to a 1-0 victory at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Roberto Mancini's men failed to make the most of a flurry of chances in the first half and were second-best after the break, with centre-back De Maio wounding them at the death.

The result also ensures Genoa will play another season in Serie A - a fifth win from seven games banished memories of a woeful start to the campaign.

Carpi grabbed a vital win in their Serie A relegation battle as they came from behind to beat 10-man Genoa 4-1.

The Biancorossi had suffered back-to-back defeats in the league, leaving them level on points with 18th-placed Palermo, but three goals in the space of five minutes moved them clear of the bottom three.

Leonardo Pavoletti opened the scoring in the 34th minute, but Armando Izzo's sending-off in the 45th minute proved the catalyst for a turnaround in first-half stoppage time.

Mattia Perin injury opens Italy door for AC Milan's Gianluigi Donnarumma

Mattia Perin
Mattia Perin has made 25 Serie A appearances this season.

Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin's hopes of being Italy's third goalkeeper at Euro 2016 have ended after he was diagnosed with a cruciate ligament tear in his right knee, raising the chance of 17-year-old Gianluigi Donnarumma earning a call.

Perin, who was the main candidate to be backup to Gianluigi Buffon and Salvatore Sirigu in the Italy squad for the European Championship this summer, picked up the injury during his side's win at Sassuolo on Saturday.

Blerim Dzemaili poured cold water on Sassuolo's quest for a Europa League place by firing Genoa to a 1-0 victory at the Mapei Stadium.

Seventh-placed Sassuolo are hot on AC Milan's heels but missed the chance to replace them after suffering only a third home defeat of the season.

Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin made a fine save to deny Nicola Sansone before, in the 42nd minute, Dzemaili turned Tim Matavz's shot home after the Slovenian's effort hit a post.

Perin later preserved all three points for Genoa...
