NASL to add Orange County club, sues Fort Lauderdale Strikers

A new club in Orange County, California, will join the North American Soccer League in 2018, the organization announced on Wednesday, the same day it sued the dormant Fort Lauderdale Strikers.

The addition of the new California team, owned by businessman Pete Capriotti, will be the league's second team on the West Coast after the San Francisco Deltas began play this year.

The club, which is "currently considering several names," will play at Cal State Fullerton's Titan Stadium, a 10,000-seat...

NASL's Fort Lauderdale Strikers in financial jeopardy - reports

The Fort Lauderdale Strikers are in serious financial jeopardy, while the future of the entire National American Soccer League is also in doubt, according to reports.

As reported by WRAL in Raleigh, North Carolina, and confirmed by Sun-Sentinel and the Miami Herald, Strikers principal owner Paulo Cesso stopped funding the team on Sept. 1.

That would leave the NASL to cover expenses for the rest of the season, and the league will discuss the Strikers' situation at next week's Board of Governors...

The New England Revolution beat the Philadelphia Union 4-2 on penalties to advance to the U.S. Open Cup semifinals.

Diego Fagundez found Je-Vaughn Watson from a set piece and the midfielder's left-footed shot from the center of the box to the bottom right corner beat Union goalkeeper Andre Blake to make it 1-0 ahead of the break.

Kei Kamara was dangerous throughout the second half, calling Blake into action once from 18 yards out and again from just inside the penalty...

Orlando City SC were shock 2-1 extra-time losers to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers of the NASL.

Jose Angulo gave the Strikers a good start in the 12th minute, picking up a through ball and beating Orlando goalkeeper Earl Edwards.

Orlando would level just three minutes later, with Kevin Molino slicing through the Ft. Lauderdale defense and calmly chipping in past Diego Restrepo.

Kleberson had a difficult passage through Manchester United after winning the World Cup in 2002.

Former World Cup winner and Manchester United midfielder Kleberson has signed with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers of the North American Soccer League, the club announced on Monday.

Kleberson, 36, was a standout player in Brazil's 2002 World Cup triumph in Korea and Japan, where he provided an assist in the final for Ronaldo, who is now a co-owner of the Strikers.
