Russia drop Ruslan Kambolov from World Cup squad ahead of doping probe

Russia cut defender Ruslan Kambolov, who faced a doping investigation, from their World Cup squad on Monday, saying he injured a calf muscle with Rubin Kazan the day before.

Kambolov was replaced on the preliminary squad by 38-year-old veteran Sergei Ignashevich, who came out of international retirement.

The RFU said coaches dropped Kambolov, "taking into account the training time [until the World Cup begins] and the possibility of exacerbating the problem."

Yann M'Vila returns to France with St Etienne

Yann M'Vila has returned to France with St Etienne.

Former Inter Milan and Sunderland midfielder Yann M'Vila has signed a one-and-a-half-year contract with Ligue 1 club St Etienne.

The 27-year-old, a product of the Rennes academy, leaves Rubin Kazan after a five-year association with the Russian Premier League side.

A statement published on St Etienne's official website said M'Vila, who made 40 appearances for Sunderland while on loan at the Stadium of Light, had committed to Les Verts until June 2019.


Toronto FC signs Chris Mavinga from Rubin Kazan

Chris Mavinga has spent most of his career playing in Ligue 1 in France.

Toronto FC completed the signing of midfielder Chris Mavinga from Russian club Rubin Kazan on Tuesday.

The MLS club did not reveal terms of the transfer or Mavinga's contract.

The 25-year-old came up with the youth sides at both Paris-Saint Germain and Liverpool, and most recently played on loan with French club Troyes in Ligue 1, making 23 appearances in all competitions.

Rubin Kazan set to sign Alex Song from Barcelona

Alex Song has spent the last two seasons on loan at West Ham.

Rubin Kazan have reached an agreement to sign midfielder Alex Song from Barcelona.

Song, who has spent the last two seasons on loan at West Ham, joined Barcelona from Arsenal in 2012 but was unable to make an impact at the Camp Nou.

Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo reports that the 28-year-old Cameroonian will join Rubin on a free transfer if he passes his medical.

Javi Gracia has left Malaga for a four-year deal managing Rubin Kazan.

Malaga have announced the departure of manager Javi Gracia after two seasons in charge.

Gracia, who led Malaga to consecutive ninth-place finishes in the Primera Division, has accepted a four-year contract to manage Russian side Rubin Kazan.
