Coach Stefan Ruthenbeck extends Cologne agreement until end of season

Stefan Ruthenbeck guided Cologne to their first win of the season.

Cologne caretaker boss Stefan Ruthenbeck has signed a deal to remain as head coach until the end of the season.

Ruthenbeck took over at the Bundesliga's bottom club following the departure of Peter Stoger at the start of this month.

Cologne won for the first time in the league on Saturday at the 17th attempt, beating Wolfsburg 1-0.

"FC is my club. To be given the trust to do my job here makes me proud as a local of Cologne and it is a tremendous chance as a coach," Ruthenbeck told the club's official...

Cologne and Freiburg managed to get the game played despite heavy snow.

Two penalties in the final minutes of the match saw winless Cologne capitulate as they threw away a 3-0 lead to lose 4-3 at home to fellow relegation battlers Freiburg on Sunday.

Kickoff in Cologne was delayed by half an hour due to a snowstorm that continued as the game got underway.

Ground staff managed to clear snow from the pitch markings, which were then painted red to ensure they were visible. But they forgot all about the penalty spot -- which caused referee Robert Kampka big problems...

Cologne appoint Armin Veh as managing director

Armin Veh joins struggling Cologne as they seek to revive their fortunes.

Cologne appointed former Stuttgart and Eintracht Frankfurt coach Armin Veh as managing director on Wednesday, filling the job left vacant by Jorg Schmadtke's departure in October.

The struggling club said that the 56-year-old Veh, who led Stuttgart to the Bundesliga title in 2007, signed a contract through June 2020.

"I see this as a major challenge and opportunity to make something happen at this fascinating traditional soccer club," said Veh, who has also coached Hamburg and had a dual role as...
