Partick Thistle shocked Dundee United with a well-deserved Premiership win at Tannadice to lift themselves seven points clear of relegation.

Alan Archibald's side secured a much-needed victory thanks to goals from Stephen O'Donnell and an own goal awarded against Jaroslaw Fojut towards the end of the first half at Tannadice.

But for United it was the last result they had wanted before taking on Celtic in next Sunday's Scottish Cup quarter-final tie.

Ryan McGowan became the first player to be booked...

Motherwell dropped to the bottom of the Scottish Premiership after a 1-0 defeat by Dundee in a dreary encounter at Fir Park.

Dees defender Paul McGinn scored a fortuitous goal after 12 minutes - an intended cross flew into the net - to ultimately give the Taysiders all three points.

Ross County's 3-1 win at Partick Thistle meant they leapfrogged Ian Baraclough's side, who are without a win in eight games, and St Mirren, who lost 3-0 at Aberdeen.

It was Dundee's third victory over Motherwell this season...

A late winner from Paul McGowan saw Dundee move into sixth position in the Scottish Premiership as Partick Thistle left Dens Park bitterly disappointed.

Paul Hartley's side leapfrogged Tayside rivals St Johnstone in the table thanks to McGowan's stoppage-time finish, which downed Alan Archibald's visitors 1-0.

Dundee handed a debut to recent signing Paul Heffernan while on-loan Hibernian ace Alex Harris returned from being cup-tied against Celtic the previous week.

Gary Harkins won a place on the bench...

Celtic's quest for a domestic treble remains firmly on course after an impressive 2-0 win over Dundee in their William Hill Scottish Cup fifth-round tie at Dens Park.

Striker Leigh Griffiths headed the Hoops into the lead in the seventh minute with his third goal in four games and the home side were only still in the tie at the interval thanks to keeper Scott Bain.

The Scottish Premiership leaders, who face Dundee United in next month's Scottish League Cup final at Hampden Park, doubled their lead...

Celtic add Stuart Armstrong and Gary Mackay-Steven from Dundee United

ESPN FC analyst Craig Burley sounds off on Celtic's 2-0 win over Rangers in the Scottish League Cup, where he feels the standards have dropped immensely and as if two pub teams were playing against each other.

Celtic succeeded in their pursuit of Dundee United pair Stuart Armstrong and Gary Mackay-Steven in the final hours of the transfer window.

Armstrong signed a three-and-a-half-year contract in the final stages of the window while Mackay-Steven completed his move to Parkhead having already signed a pre-contract agreement. He has signed until 2019.

The move severely weakens United's attacking options just two days after they set up a Scottish League Cup final meeting with Celtic but they have the compensation...
