Nigel Pearson praised Claudio Ranieri, his Leicester successor.

Former Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson has said he is "aware of his contribution" to the club's stunning Premier League title success.

Pearson, now the boss of Championship side Derby County, made the comments as he spoke to the media in his formal introduction by the club.

He guided Leicester to promotion from the second tier before leading them to Premier League safety in the 2014-15 season, but lost his job that summer.

Nigel Pearson is the new manager of Derby County.

Derby have announced the appointment of former Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson as their new manager.

Pearson, recently interviewed for the vacant managerial post at Aston Villa, has signed a three-year contract with the Championship Rams.

The 52-year-old is the permanent successor to Paul Clement, who was sacked in February. Academy manager Darren Wassall was then promoted to head coach for the rest of the season.

Hull's Steve Bruce lauds Derby after tight Championship playoff win

Hull City have progressed through to the Championship Playoffs final, where they will meet Sheffield Wednesday.

Hull manager Steve Bruce lauded opposite number Darren Wassall and his Derby side who ran the Tigers close in their Championship playoff semifinal.

Derby won the second leg 2-0, to lose 3-2 on aggregate and earned praise from Bruce, whose side just sneaked through to a meeting with Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday in the final on May 28.

A relieved Bruce said: "You have to give big credit to Derby, they had nothing to lose.
