Jonathan dos Santos opened the scoring for the Yellow Submarine in the 10th minute before a second-half double from Vietto sealed the win.

Villarreal finished the game with 10 men after Tomas Pina was sent off in the 80th minute for a professional foul on Depor midfielder Alex Bergantinos, but it did not affect the result.

Spanish FA's Angel Maria Villar taking action against ultras, say FIFA, UEFA

The Spanish Football League has announced new measures to avoid a repeat of the violent clashes that led to the death of a Deportivo La Coruna fan.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter and UEFA chief Michel Platini have defended Spanish FA president Angel Maria Villar from criticism that Villar has not supported measures to deal with ultras violence in Spanish football.

The death of Deportivo La Coruna ultra Javier Romero Taboada (widely known as Jimmy) in an allegedly pre-organised street battle with Atletico Madrid counterparts before a game on Nov. 30 has prompted proposals to remove radical supporters groups which had previously been tolerated within...

Spain arrest 17 more people in fan fight

The Spanish Football League has announced new measures to avoid a repeat of the violent clashes that led to the death of a Deportivo La Coruna fan.

BARCELONA, Spain -- Spanish police on Thursday arrested 17 more members of radical football groups who allegedly participated in a massive street brawl that left one man dead before a match between Atletico Madrid and Deportivo La Coruna last month.

Police say the 17 people were arrested in the northwestern region of Galicia, home to Deportivo. Police say all 17 were associated with the "ultra" group "Riazor Blues," which supports Deportivo.

Police had already arrested 21 men on Nov. 30, the day...

Spanish police arrest 32 ultras, 'two connected with Deportivo fan death'

ESPN FC's Sid Lowe delves deeper into the passing of a Deportivo La Coruna fan and the actions Atletico Madrid are planning to take to ensure the safety of supporters.

Two members of the "Frente Atletico" radical group have reportedly been arrested in connection with the death of Deportivo La Coruna ultra Javier "Jimmy" Romero Taboada, according to Spanish Police.

The death took place during a reportedly pre-organised fight with Depor's "Riazor Blues" group, in which about 200 individuals took part in running battles by the banks of Madrid's river Manzanzares, ahead of a midday La Liga game between the clubs at Atletico Madrid's Estadio Vicente Calderon on Nov....

Deportivo La Coruna eased the pressure on manager Victor Fernandez with a hard-earned 1-0 win over fellow Primera Division strugglers Elche at the Riazor to move out of the bottom three.

Fernandez had seen his position come under the microscope following a six-match winless streak.

However, a fine strike from midfielder Luis Farina midway through the first half proved enough to settle what was a tense encounter, with a superb late reflex save from Fabricio denying Elche the chance to snatch a point.
