Mexicans abroad: Nestor Araujo clinches Europeo of the Week award

A long list of the top talents in Mexican soccer are making names for themselves in clubs abroad. With several key figures playing week in and week out in a number of top European leagues, keeping track of all the high-profile stars can at times be daunting.

Celta Vigo fires ex-Monterrey, Club America boss Antonio Mohamed

Celta Vigo sacked coach Antonio Mohamed on Monday and replaced him with Portuguese Miguel Cardoso after a poor start to the season that has left them 14th in La Liga.

The Galician club have three wins from 12 matches and lost 4-2 at home to European champions Real Madrid on Sunday under Argentine Mohamed who replaced Juan Carlos Unzue in May.

Mohamed managed several prominent clubs in Mexico before going to Celta. He won league titles with Club America and Tijuana, as well as a cup title with Monterrey.

Santiago Solari's first La Liga match in charge as caretaker manager of Real Madrid ended with a 2-0 victory over Real Valladolid.

Celta Vigo forward Iago Aspas has said that Real Madrid were keen to sign him last summer before choosing to re-sign Mariano.

Aspas has been La Liga's highest-scoring Spaniard for the last two years, and was reportedly a target for Real Madrid earlier this year.

The Spain international has now said that the European champions, who face Celta Vigo on Sunday, did hold an interest in him, though they did not make a formal approach.
