Bulgaria have been fined €75,000 and ordered to play two matches behind closed doors, with one suspended, following the racist abuse that marred their Euro 2020 qualifier against England.  

The match on Oct. 14, which England won 6-0, was stopped on multiple occasions due to incidents of racist abuse from the crowd in Sofia.

Bulgaria coach Krasimir Balakov has resigned days after home fans at Vasil Levski Stadium directed racist abuse at England players during a 6-0 defeat to Gareth Southgate's side.

The Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) announced the news in a statement on Friday.

Also Friday, five more Bulgarian fans were detained and the interior ministry said police had so far identified 16 people believed to have taken part in the abuse.

Bulgarian prosecutors on Thursday charged an 18-year-old man in connection with the racist abuse hurled at England's black players during their Euro 2020 qualifier in Sofia.

England thrashed Bulgaria 6-0 on Monday but the match was marred by a section of home supporters taunting the visiting players with Nazi salutes and monkey chants.
