Columbus Crew SC signed Portuguese midfielder Pedro Santos as a designated player on Tuesday.
Santos, 29, moves to MLS from Braga and joins Federico Higuain and Jonathan Mensah as the third DP on Columbus's squad, the first time the club has used all three DP slots.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Columbus said it was the biggest transfer fee paid in club history. Reports in Portugal said it was over $2 million.

The Houston Dynamo signed Argentine midfielder Tomas Martinez as a young designated player on Monday.
Martinez, 22, moves from Portuguese club Braga and joins 24-year-old Erick "Cubo" Torres and 21-year Alberth Elis as Houston's third designated player, giving the Dynamo the youngest set of DPs in MLS.
"Tomas Martinez is a player who we've tracked for quite some time, and after a lengthy process we're pleased to welcome him to the Houston Dynamo," Dynamo general manager Matt Jordan said in a statment.
Braga president Antonio Salvador managed to convince teenage attacker Pedro Neto to snub interest from Barcelona and Manchester United in order to continue his development at the Portuguese club, the player's father has revealed.
