Now that the English transfer window is closed, take a look back at the most expensive players bought in the Premier League this summer.

Fulham's new loan signing Andre Schurrle says he was misinterpreted when saying jealousy from fans drove him away from Germany.

Schurrle left Borussia Dortmund earlier this summer, joining Premier League side Fulham on an initial two-year loan deal. It ended a difficult spell in Germany, where he was criticised by sections of his own support.

"It was not easy, the relationship between fans and players. It's a big jealousy thing in Germany that you have from fans -- not the hardcore fans, because...

Borussia Dortmund fans' jealousy drove me out of club - Andre Schurrle

Andre Schurrle returned to London on a two-year loan from Borussia Dortmund last month.

Andre Schurrle said fans' jealousy drove him to return to England and is why many Germany internationals do not play in the Bundesliga.

Schurrle, 27, joined Fulham last month on a two-year loan from Borussia Dortmund, the club he joined from Wolfsburg in 2016.

He spent two mediocre seasons at Dortmund, scoring three Bundesliga goals in 33 of a possible 68 appearances, and not only did he lose his place in the national team, he became a target of ironic chants of "Schuuuu" and "We'll drink until...

Mario Gotze is facing a "crucial season" in his career, Sebastian Kehl, the new head of Borussia Dortmund's player division.

Former BVB captain Kehl told Sport Bild that he is confident midfielder Mario Gotze can finally return to form in the upcoming season.

"I have good access to Mario, not only because we've been teammates," he said. "He knows that I highly rate him. But, like with everyone else, performance is at the centre of the thinking."

Poland defender Lukasz Piszczek says he is retiring from the national team following a poor World Cup performance.

Piszczek wrote on Instagram on Saturday that he was taking a "hard but rational" decision and was ending his "adventure with the representation."

In an interview for Wirtualna Polska, the 33-year-old Borussia Dortmund defender said his performance was a "great surprise" to him and that his physical condition failed him at the tournament in Russia.
