New boss Lee Clark will be thrown into the deep end at Blackpool as he tries to reduce the seven-point deficit between the Seasiders and safety when Ipswich visit Bloomfield Road.

Clark was announced as Jose Riga's successor on Thursday just 10 days after parting ways with Birmingham who, like the Tangerines, are mired in the bottom three.

The new man at the helm will at least be able to call on captain Tony McMahon again after he served a one-match suspension against Reading in a 3-0 defeat which...

Blackpool part company with head coach Jose Riga

Blackpool play their home games at Bloomfield Road.

Blackpool have sacked head coach Jose Riga after just four and a half months in charge.

The former Charlton boss has seen his side pick up only six points from their opening 14 games since he took charge -- a run which has left them rooted to the foot of the Championship.

Working with a threadbare squad, which contained just eight players when the new season started, the 57-year-old has publicly questioned their transfer policy on a number of occasions.

Former Birmingham manager Lee Clark had been...

Reading ended their six-match run without a Championship victory by beating bottom club Blackpool 3-0.

But it was an unconvincing win achieved with a first-half goal from Glenn Murray, a second-half Peter Clarke own goal and a late Nick Blackman effort.

Reading's promising start to the season had long since evaporated on the back of their winless sequence. They had conceded three goals in four of their previous five games.

Blackpool's form was even worse, with just one win in 13 league outings prior...

Chris Martin held his nerve from the penalty spot nine minutes from time to send Derby County top of the Championship with a 1-0 win at Blackpool.

Johnny Russell was brought down by Tony McMahon inside the area deep into the second half and up stepped Martin to notch his ninth league goal of the season.

The Rams are now unbeaten in 10 league games, while Blackpool remain rooted to the foot of the table with just one solitary win to their name all season.

Given the contrast in fortunes of the two sides...

Winger Harry Bunn scored twice in five minutes early on as Huddersfield Town recorded a 4-2 Sky Bet Championship victory over Blackpool.

The Terriers were three up inside 16 minutes and it could have been 6-0 before half-time but for excellent saves from Blackpool keeper Joe Lewis.

Two goals in first-half stoppage time for the visitors threatened to turn the game on its head. But Huddersfield clung on to register their third win in four unbeaten matches as their climb up the table continues.
